Artist: TOKIO
Song: HUMMINGBIRD
Listen to it here! The story behind today's entry is much more interesting than yesterday's, I swear! You see, when I was on the plane to Japan back when I went in 2006, there were radio stations that mostly just played random stuff most people wouldn't usually listen to--that's typical of airplanes. When a few of the...probably 14 or so stations were nothing but static, I really wasn't surprised. I'd done enough traveling in my life to know that this was nothing out of the ordinary, and disregarded this in favor of my iPod and laptop. Of course, neither of those things would last the entire duration of what would be the longest flight of my life to date (I think I purposely didn't use up all the iPod for emergency purposes) so eventually I had to settle for the in-flight radio.
I recall dosing off at one point, and whatever song was playing had been very distracting. instead of just turning off the volume or taking off my headphones >_> I turned to one of the non-functioning channels that was neither music nor static...it was just no sound at all. When we finally landed, I woke up, but the channel was no longer silent. In fact, at that moment we landed, the previously silent channel began playing music (perhaps it was sooner, but that was when I noticed it!) ... specifically, it was this song. I instantly recognized the vocalist...this was TOKIO! This was the first song I heard in Japan...and I had never heard of it before! I thought it was a single, so I looked it up later and couldn't find very much on it. When I found out it was on the Act II album (one of many factors which lead me to purchase it), I fell in love with it even more. This song has held a special place in my heart as it always reminds me of the very first time I landed in Japan, and thus is the song more than any other that I associate with Japan itself.
I wasn't sure to use this one as a reminder of a PLACE or an event, since it could be both, but I felt like it reminds me of a place more than any other song I know of does. Apologies for having to link to last.fm ... this was another one that wasn't very easy to find already uploaded, and unlike with Cm, I don't have the energy right now to make a shortened version to put up >_> maybe later.
