So when it rains it pours.
Three days ago our Schotzy dog couldn't walk and hubby had to carry her around. So last night we all cried about it. Yesterday, hubby took the youngest to school and talked with the counselor and they all cried. As a family, we decdied to put Schotzy out of her misery.
I come home from school and she has managed to get up on her hind legs and walk. I figure she isn't going far, so I put my stuff in the house. I come back out and she's not in the front yard.
She's not to be seen in the back yard. So we go out to find her and she's making eyes at some young doberman. I yell at her to come back, she doesn't. So, I have to go get her. Apparently, she had used all her energy and sat down. I drug her back home. I can't carry a 75 lb dog. I put her on the line and leave her outside.
hubby and I couldn't decide what to do...
3 really bad days and now she acts like a puppy? Upon closer observance, she's still shaky on the back legs. I guess she'll do anything for a young stud.
We take her to the vet and he says, she's only getting worse.
He thinks it's nerve damage of some sort not hip dysplasia. Looks at her back and says chances are it's calcification in her spine which explains why she hadn't bothered to clean herself and the loss of bladder control. no cure... endless pain...
we have her put to sleep.
I decide to scratch her ears as the Vet does it.... Schotzy's favorite thing in the whole world. When Schotzy winces, I back up a bit and the vet's needle scratches my left wrist. Yeah, the needle that was just in Schotzy.
So, I start treating it like a stick from back when I was at KU. My pinky went numb for a while.
At least she got one last good day. She got to make out with a hot young stud and crap in the neighbor's lawn while he was watching.
Her favorite things in life.
The wincing she did the last few days evertime she tried to move... well that pain is now gone.
She taught my sons to walk. We saved her from being killed for being a runt at 6 months old.
We gave her 12.5 years; I hope it was good.
It seemed strange not having the kids let her in tonight or feed her...
She won't be in the garage in the morning...
I hope she has a good rebirth... she was mighty good to us..
schotzy,
death
