On our first day of University we were given the task of giving a presentation to our fellow-freshers under the computing framework. We managed to string some information together, and met for a short-while pre-presentation. I was feeling slightly nervous, more than I usually do. Many people know that I really do not shy away from talking, so long as it's about something constructive. I'm not terribly good at talking socially, but professionally is a different matter altogether. I think it's the difference between talking bullshit (something of no importance) and speaking about something that matters to me. It was the biggest group I've ever had to give a talk for, and unlike a classroom where you can only really make eye-contact with those in the front, I was talking in a leacture theatre. It's a little like being on stage, everyone can see you and it's as though they're surrounding you. This made me feel uneasy, but after a short while my legs had stablised themselves and I found myself introducing our group, and adlibing. I still may consider a career in teaching for a university at some later stage of my life, since it's something I feel I'd enjoy.
Once we'd seen all the presentations it was down the pub. On the way I was speaking to Stephen and Minesh, two of the guys in my presentation group. And spoke with them at the pub, and a guy in my seminar group Laurie. Once I'd had a couple of pints I headed round to Ashley's with Laurie and we played some games: Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Battlefield 2142. It was good fun. Laurie left at about midnight and I didn't feel like paying for a taxi to get back home, I also felt quite alright where I was, aside the clutter (many boxes left by Shanna).
Ashley and I listened to some music and we both keep wishing to see Counting Crows live. Ashley looked up Counting Crows on YouTube and we found a gig with them playing at Glastonbury in 2000. Wish I could've been there! After watching this I felt like seeing some more live performances and we put Matchbox Twenty's Live DVD in Atlanta on. They're another band I wish I could see live, and given the oppertunity would do so.
It wasn't until 8am that we wanted to sleep, although felt bad because it was a Friday; therefore we should be going to work. It's been really unstable since Shanna left, dealing with the loss of a dear-friend and comforting Ashley has left us somewhat stunned. I ended up sleeping amoungst the boxes.
This weekend I need to get the website up to a stage where it's ready for review. Means more late nights and strange waking hours. Luckliy Monday shouldn't be too bad since I don't need to be at Uni. until midday, and can head to Cali. at 3pm.
Life is really bizzare at the moment and it's going to take a while to settle into the changes. I'm lost for words. It's really messed up. I'll get used to this.
Looking forward to Wednesday night and getting together with Steve.
