I don't know if it's different in Louisiana but over here you can attend classes even if you're not sure what your major should be. You'll just be listed as "undecided" and your adviser(s) will probably try to pressure you into deciding right then and there but if you're not ready to decide, don't rush it. Be careful when picking out your classes though. Don't pick all the easy shit just for credits. If you're just going to a junior or community college make sure you take classes with credits that can be transfered to a four year (private or public). Four years seem to love English, math, and various humanities classes on your resume. Volunteer work also looks good and I would recommend buddying up with at least one professor just in case you need a letter of recommendation (if you transfer).
Don't be afraid to explore your options with financial aid. Grants, work for study, and even loans can help you out a ton. If you're completely unsure of how to go about it check out http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ . It's the official site for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Snoop around a bit and check out the links. I would also recommend stopping by the college you plan on attending and picking up a hard copy of the application at least a month or two before submitting it. Familiarize yourself with the questions (your mom or dad will have to look over it with you since you are a dependant and her or his signature will be needed on a lot of the paperwork), mark any that really confuse you, then if possible go back to the college's financial aid office and ask for help or if there's someone you could go to for help. Also pick up any literature you see concerning financial aid and most importantly DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS!!
I don't know if that helped any but I wish you luck, with both college and the job. If you have questions e-mail me or catch me on AIM, I'll help you out if I can.
