Christos Gage's interview on Angel & Faith Issue 20 and why it doesn't fly for this Spike fan

Anyone following along knows I’m very against what the Buffy comics has turned into. A couple of weeks ago I was in a good place. I saw what they were doing with the Buffy character and knew I was done. I did my best to ignore the comics. However there still lingered a curiosity about what they planned for Spike. I understand that some people would not have issues with Gage's Spike. I've heard a few people say they were okay with it. I guess it boils down to how you view Spike (as you say, YMMV). You know I'm not a soulless redemptionist and I personally see a ton of differences between soulless and soulful. Those differences make the character for me, it's where I find enjoyment in the character.

I think Spike in AtS5 was somewhat out of character personally, but not that far off like I think Gage's writing does for the character. I think there was some good scenes in AtS5 for Spike. However I don't like how they used him and would have prefered he left after an arc or two.

I'm more upset as a Spike fan than a spuffy fan over this. Some spuffiness comes into it, but more out of wishing for respect and closure for the ship (and any emotional arc they were supposed to have this season) than any type of saving Spike for Buffy silliness (as I mentioned I am okay with the sex if it was a new soulful girl, bar pick up scenario). In the comics I don't care for spuffy like I do with the TV show.

Gage mention in his interview that the "Ew, gross!" wasn't suppose to come off that way. It was because they were disgusted they'd have to hear the sex not because of the sex. Again, the text reads like the texts reads (to you or to me, or the million other interpretations), and from my post, you know it doesn't work for me at all. But maybe with that explanation it'll work better for you.
