McCain-Palin

Aug 29, 2008 19:05

Wow, so McCain picked Michael Palin to be his running mate? That is so bold, esp. since I don't think the former Monty Python member can actually become President according to the Constitution.

(What? Huh? Oh Sarah Palin. Well now that's something completely different...)

So my first reaction to the announcement was, "They're going directly after the 'disaffected' Hilary voters. That's a bit silly."

My second reaction was, "Who's Sarah Palin? Damn, this Presidential race just got even wackier!"

Then I went to the bathroom, and it was there that I got pissed off. See Palin wasn't picked because she desperately wanted to clean up Washington from the Throne of Cheney (she recently dissed the VP job, in fact), and she wasn't picked because of her youth -- as it is, being younger than Obama undermines the whole Republican strategy up till now. And why Palin over Kay Bailey Hutchison or Elizabeth Dole, eh?

No, picking Palin means the RNC believes that women (and others of course, but mostly women) voted for Hilary not because of her experience or her record or name recognition, but simply because she's female. If they bring in a female, any female, those voters will go for the Republicans instead. Simple, eh? What an insult to voters everywhere. Bah!

So Palin gets the nod through affirmative action ("We need a woman to grab the Hilararians, dammit!"), combined her being a former beauty queen ("Hello straight boys on the fence!"), and oh yeah, she happens to be an anti-Choice conservative ("Hello Ralph Reed!").

As Flight of the Conchords might say: what a bunch of mutha'uckas...

flight of the conchords, politics, feminism, republicans
