[At first there is only baffled silence, then a chuckle can be heard.]

Well, why don't you try being a decent plant?

That would be an experience, I guess. But I'd probably just get a tan.

A pity, then. I had more something like starting to grow leaves in mind.

Heh. Let's not give the Deities any ideas. That might be the next curse.

How would they know? Nobody need's to tell them.

Anyway, I do hope your salad was at least tasty.

I think they might watch the Network sometimes...

Oh, yes, I think it'll be good! As long as I don't think of it as a "corpse".

Really? Damn it. Good to know, I wasn't aware of that.

Well, being a salad wouldn't make it one, but many corpses, wouldn't it? It's entirely unreasonable to let yourself be affected by that. As long as it's delicious food, you just need to overcome that. Trust me, I know exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm not sure, but they do respond to people's entries occasionally.

...Uh, yeah. You're right. I just need to not think about it. People need to eat. so...it's reasonable. Ah. You do?

I will take note of that, it's worrisome.

Exactly! Besides, meat is theoretically also a mutilated corpse, so if you want to eat something that's not dead, you're left with very few choices...

Indeed, I do. I need a very special diet, heh - it's tasty, altough I didn't want to think about it either in the beginning, just like you now. Fortunately I'm not bothered by it any more.

Yeah. That's what I was thinking. It's the natural way of things.

Special...diet. Do I want to know? ...Maybe I don't want to know. I guess you get used to doing what you need to survive.

Indeed, a most accurate thought.

I'm curious now, who are you?

Me? I'm Chrono. Uh...and you?

Chrono, hm? I don't think I have ever met someone with that name.

Myself, I'm First Lieutenant Rip van Winkle.

Ah, yeah, it's a little unusual to say the least.

Rip van Winkle? Like the story?

It is and I can't place it. In which language does it belong?

Ahh, yes, like the story. I haven't asked why, though, and I don't think I'm that dreamy either. It surprises me you know it.

Ah...I think it might have its roots in Greek. There's a Greek god named Chronos. Or it's possible they got the word from our language. I've never been sure.

There was a point in time that I wasn't allowed outside of my room much...so I read a lot.
