Timeline: Uhh....June 26
Summary: Bunta feels like a little company.
Sometimes you could just do with company, Bunta figured, and he thought he'd maybe like to talk about stuff with someone other than Akaya for a change. He loved the cello player's company but he wanted to ask for a bit of advice, and he didn't want to drop hints to Akaya that he might be leaving the orchestra for a while untill he had more of an idea if it was likely to happen or not. So it was Ann's door he found himself outside, knocking loudly. He just hoped she was around. Even if he didn't end up talking about any of this stuff, he still liked her company.
Was that a knock on her door? Ann stiller her bow for a moment and heard the distinct sound of someone rapping on her door. She smiled to herself. One of these days, everyone would finally remember that she never locked her door, and people were welcome to walk right in.
"It's open! C'mon in!"
Ann called out as she started to move her double bass to it's usual storage spot. When the door opened, she smiled at the red-head standing in the doorway.
"Bunta-kun! It's good to see you! I'd give you a hug, but I'm a little indisposed right now."
Bunta grinned and settled for waving a greeting, stepping inside. "Hiya, hope I'm not bothering you," he told Ann brightly. "Just wanted to hang out with someone for a while."
"Oh! No bother at all! C'mon in and make yourself at home!" Sliding her bow into it's case, she moved towards the kitchen to grab some mugs.
"Can I get you something? Tea? Coffee?" With a grin, Ann brought out a container and lifted its lid. The scent of fresh baking emanated from it as she held it out for Bunta's inspection. "Cupcakes?"
The violinist's grin only widened at the sight of the cupcakes. "Ann! You're the best," he declared, wide-eyed at the sight of freshly baked cake. "How're you, anyway? Haven't seen so much of you just lately."
Putting some of the little cakes out on a plate, Ann proceeded to put some water on for tea.
"I've been alright. Things've been a bit busy, what with going on tour and all. And it seems like a principal's work is never done. What about you?" Truth be told, Marui looked a little....lost? Ann wasn't quite sure what it was that made her think that. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, I mean... I'm not feeling depressed or anything," unlike the first time he'd spoken to Ann, which must've left a great first impression, "just trying to make some decisions."
"Oh?" Ann's eyebrow quirked up in question. She finished preparing the tea, bringing it over to the living area. Flopping on the couch, mug in hand, she sipped the steamy beverage carefully.
"Do tell..." She motioned for Marui to help himself to the tea and cakes. Food for thought after all.
Bunta reached for a cupcake and munched happily for a moment, considering what to tell Ann. "Mm... well, I'm just wondering if I should go on tour with everyone this summer or not," he ventured, shrugging.
Well that was certainly a bit of a shock. Ann had just assumed that everyone would be going on tour. Still, she managed to keep herself from spitting out her tea.
"Wow...can't say I saw that one coming. Did something come up?"
"We-ell," Bunta smiled brightly, though he could see Ann was surprised, "I've got a chance to do some recordings, with more solo stuff than I get to do here. Probably won't be the only chance but it seems like as good a time as any..." he was still a touch uncomfortable here, too, for reasons he couldn't quite define; a little time out felt like a good idea, though he'd definitely miss Akaya, and a few other people - like Ann.
"Oh wow!! Congratulations!!!" That was a really great opportunity for Bunta, for sure. "Yeah...I can see how this might be a tough choice for you." While Ann was quite happy for him, she had to admit that she was looking forward to showing him around Sydney. Oh, and the fun they could have in Tokyo. But to cut an album? Well, that was something special too.
"And what do you think about it?"
"I'd like to do it," Bunta said thoughtfully, "I'd feel a little bad about abandoning everyone after we've worked so hard to get everything together." And Akaya would probably be pissed. "But... still..."
Nodding, Ann helped herself to a cupcake as well. "It would be a great opportunity. We'd certainly miss you though. Have you talked to Sakaki-sensei? He might have some advice to give about it...y'know, just as another perspective. After all, you have your own musical career to think about too, right?"
"That's true, I... should," though really, for all his ability, Sakaki was one of the things which made Bunta most uncomfortable about this place. Talking to him was a rather intimidating prospect at the best of times. He swiped another cupcake, hoping Ann didn't mind, though he had few morals when it came to food. "Who knows. Even if I do this I'll come and see you all when I can!"
Grinning, Ann understood at once that Bunta was probably feeling a little awkward about going to talk to Kantoku.
"Oh, Bunta-kun. Kantoku isn't that bad!" She chuckled a little at the face he made. "The more you talk to him, the easier it gets." For her part, Ann had spoken with their conductor quite a lot after her kidnapping incident, and was growing more comfortable with it.
"This would be a great opportunity, Bunta. It's really quite an honour to be asked to cut an album. But whatever you decide, we'll always be there to support you."

"Me? Hmm...other than practicing you mean?" Ann giggled. "Let me think...I've been helping to plan some of the social activities during our tour, especially for when we'll be in Sydney. I'm gonna take whoever is adventurous enough surfing."
At that thought, Ann couldn't help a wide grin. "Oh man...to be on the waves again? That'll be beyond awesome, mate..."
"Sounds great," Bunta told her, laughing. It really would be a bit sad to miss out on all of this, but... well. He'd make a decision soon. One way or the other. And then there was the more personal stuff...
"Have you seen Masaharu lately, by the way?" he asked. "I... think he's avoiding me, actually." And Ann was pretty good friends with him, right?
Hmm...well that was a bit of a touchy topic now, wasn't it? Things between her, Niou, and Renji were shifting, but to where, not even Ann was sure yet.
"Masa-chan? Hmm...actually I haven't seen all that much of him either. Not since Renji and I woke him up with a cream pie to the face. But I hear him practicing a lot. I doubt he's purposefully avoiding anyone....why? What makes you think that he is?"
"Ah... alright. Well, I mean... I haven't seen him outside of rehearsals in months now," which had to take some doing, given that Niou lived opposite him, really. "He hasn't been replying to messages, either. I kinda wanted to tell him some stuff. Wonder what's up. I thought it was just me, t'be honest."
And in fact, that was surprising behaviour for Masa-chan. To not even reply to messages? Ann knew there was some tension between Niou and Bunta, but hadn't ever heard the full story. But it just seemed awkward to press the violinist for the details.
"I don't know what to say, Bunta-kun...I mean, I know we're all busy...but..." Ann shrugged not really knowing how to help.
"Yeah..." Bunta shrugged, smile firmly back in place. "Sorry, shouldn't bother ya with this stuff, it's not like there's anything you can do. It's not a big deal."
Ann frowned. Bunta's strained smile wasn't convincing her one bit. "But it is a big deal if it's bothering you. Did you wanna talk about it? Even though I might be able to do much, I can at least listen, right?"
"I guess. It's just... I want to talk about the stuff that happened when I first arrived and get it straightened out. I mean, it's not bothering me like I was then, but I'd rather just say what I want to and have done with it, you know?" He wasn't actually sure how much Ann knew about all of that, which made it more difficult to know what to say.
"Hmmm....I think I kinda remember something about that. I mean, I don't really know the whole story, but Masa-chan was pretty upset over some things at that time. He mentioned something about Paris, and coincidences...sorry...I'm babbling. What I really meant to say was that sometimes it's good to clear the air. I hope you get a chance to talk to him soon. Should I let him know you were looking for him the next time I see him?" As in, should Ann order Niou to talk to Bunta before the all went on tour?
"It'd be good just to talk to him," Bunta nodded. "But I mean, not if it's a bother. The whole thing was kind of stupid, and a total mess, so I guess it's not surprising he doesn't want to talk to me, but still."
"Well, even if it was a mess, I'm sure that Masa-chan would rather resolve things than leave them be. I'll talk to him the next time I see him." Ann nodded, wondering just what ti was that was a mess between Niou and Bunta. If the violinist wasn't looking happier by the time they left, she might have to pry the details from Niou herself.
"Um...Bunta-kun? I know we haven't really hung out a lot before, but I just want you to know that if anything is bugging you, feel free to drop by...."
"Thanks, Ann!" Bunta exclaimed, nodding. "I'm not doing too great, am I? I seem to be in a bad mood half the time when I see you. 'M not usually like this, promise!"
"Oh, don't worry about it. Watching you in rehearsal, I have a pretty good idea of what your usual personality is like." Ann smiled warmly. "From where my spot is, I can see you chewing gum and blowing bubbles even if Kantoku can't!" Light laughter errupted from her as she winked at him. "But don't worry. I won't tell anyone."
"He might skin me alive if he caught me," Bunta pointed out, laughing a bit, though it probably wasn't far from the truth. "so you'd better not!"
Ann tapped her nose and smiled conspiratorily. "It'll be our little secret. After all, if anything happened to you, who would be my official cake tester?" Hearing him laugh was a nice change. She gave his shoulder a light squeeze. "You have a nice laugh Bunta-kun. I hope to hear it more often."
That earned Ann a grin. "Cake tester? I mean, yeah, of course!"
Ann felt better seeing that smile on his face. "Well, if you decide not to come, I wish you all the best on your recording. Be sure to let me know when it comes out so I can buy my own copy of it!"
The two sat and talked for a while longer before Marui excused himself to psyche himself up to talk to Kantoku. For her part, Ann hugged her friend as he left before going through her packing. She was looking forward to the tour, and while it was unfortunate that Bunta couldn't come, she would be sure to take many, many pictures and collect all sorts of stories to tell him when they got back.
