Since Fuji has told him what has happened with O-chibi Eiji was even more depressed. He didn't show it, he smiled like always, but he felt bad...guilty. He wanted to visit Ryoma but at the same time was afraid that he would say something wrong and hurt the younger boy. After some days filled with wondering what to do, Eiji grabbed a box of chocolate cookies and left his room. He knew that Ryomas room was just few doors away and perhaps he would be there. Carefully he knocked at the door and waited to be allowed to enter.
Watching High School Musical was probably the most stupid, girly thing he could be doing, but for now, Ryoma didn't exactly care. There were some good songs, and it made him think of the US, which seemed like a good thing. It didn't stop him from blushing and hurriedly click on the pause button when the knock on the door came however. "... Yeah?"
Slowly Eiji entered the room. "Hey. I thought I should finally say hello properly. I have handmade cookies for you", he said smiling and stepped closer, not showing how much it hurt him to see their little one like this. "Ah High School Musical, cool", he grinned. They had watched that at the dance school, because some of the dances were pretty good and they had to copy some as a kind of homework.
"Yeah, well, I'm not watching it or anything." Sure you're not.
He was still blushing and turned the TV off, pointing with his good hand at the cookies. "Put 'em on my bed." He wheeled the wheelchair out of the way and then studied the redhead. Longer hair. New hairdo. But, it was still Eiji-senpai, wasn't it? "You know, you look kinda terrible." Simply an observation.
"Sure", Eiji chuckled but did as he was told and put the cookies in the bed and then sat next to them.
"Huh? Why do I look terrible? I'm feeling good" Lie, bit still he smiled as always, "Or do you mean my style? The girls say it suits me", he almost pouted.
"No, you... Oh, forget it." Ryoma shrugged. "Not important. Hey, you know... With you and Oishi-senpai and me not really being able to walk... I'm gonna grow about as fat as Tanishi or something." Didn't stop him from picking up a cookie however.
"Hehe did Oishi bring you something too?", Eiji asked and took a cookie himself, "You know you don't have to eat them if you don't want to become fat, but a bit more Chocolate now and and then didn't harm anybody." And it really helped when one felt down, or at least it helped Eiji when he felt down.
"Yeah, a bunch of American stuff. I had S'mores." He wondered if Eiji even knew what that was, but whatever. He put the cookie down, and looked up at the redhead. "You're taller." Sulk. Everyone seemed to be. "... What have you been up to?"
Eiji tilted his head slightly. "Eh well a few centimetre I guess", he chuckled, "Uhm I have entered a dance school. It is really fun and we had a big dance show some month ago, so... yeah I even got one of four solo parts. If you want to see.. I have a recording on my laptop...", he said with a slight sheepish smile.
"What, you aren't bouncy enough as it is?" Ryoma smirked, tipping the cap on his head - Sanada's - over his eyes for a moment. "But sure, why not."
"Hey I'm much less bouncy than in middle school. Perhaps because I use most of my energy on stage." Eiji looked at that hat, it wasn't the one O-chibi has worn back in Seigaku, but he didn't say anything. "Uhm, you wanna watch now or shall I come over some other day again?"
Ryoma sucked on the insides of his cheeks and quirked an eyebrow at him. "Why, you think I can't handle it? Or... Maybe you don't wanna be around me, senpai?"
"Huh? No that's not it... I just wanted to be polite and ask you how it would be more convenient for you. Of course I want to be around you, you are one of my best friends, baka", Eiji babbled. He didn't know why Ryouma would think that he didn't wanted to be around him.
"I am?" He pushed the cap of the hat upwards, studying Eiji carefully. "I haven't really seen you in three years, senpai. And... I thought you might be uncomfortable or something around me."
"Of course you are. Seigaku is still more a family than anything else for me. Oishi, Fuji, Tezuka, Inui, Taka, Momo, Kaidou and you. You are all my family and you always will be." he said with a wide grin showing that he really meant what he said. "And why should I be uncomfortable? Okay I admit that it feels strange to see you in a wheelchair and all but hey you're still you right? Your still my adorable O-chibi."
"No. Not adorable." He glared, a small blush on his face. "I'm fifteen!"
Eiji laughed as he saw that blush. "Then cute, sexy, handsome?", he asked grinning, partly back to his old self again.
"I could live with handsome." Not that he was, he knew that much - damn being too short! - but hey, one could dream. He never wanted to be thought of as sexy again. Right now, he wasn't even certain he wanted Dan to think he was sexy. He frowned at the thought and glanced away, picking up a cookie. "Senpai's pretty smokin' too," he said, trying to lighten the mood. "Bet Oishi-senpai likes that." Operation pairing Golden Pair up was a go~!
"Okay then your my handsome O-chibi now", Eiji chuckled but then blushed at the same time. "Nya... he said I looked good when we met outside the camp... but... why do you think he likes it?", he then asked curious.
"Why wouldn't he?" Ryoma smirked. "You don't think he's hot for you?"
The blush even increased. "I do but... we're best friends....."
"And?" Nibble, nibble on the cookie. "That's a reason you shouldn't jump each other's bones?"
"Did you and Atobe agreed to pick on me? He asked me the same", Eiji almost pouted. "It's just... I don't know how Oishi thinks about me and I just don't want to risk our friendship. I'm afraid he will reject me. I could never bear with him not talking to me.
"... Oishi-senpai said he was afraid you'd laugh him in the face if you knew how he felt about you." Being subtle had never been Ryoma's forte.
His eyes widened in surprise. "He did? But... why does he think I would laugh at him? I would never..... uh.... okay...." he remembered the time when they had a fight because Eiji wanted to make fun of Momo who had just lost his regular spot. But still... why would Oishi think he would laugh at him?
"I don't know. But you know how he is. Self conscious and all that." Ryoma shrugged. "And he thinks you're all cool and shit now and that he can't compare, so he thinks he shouldn't bother with you. For your sake."
"Oishi no Baka! (that idiot)", Eiji murmured. Oishi was perfect just as he was and he wouldn't be Oishi if he wasn't like that. "So... he told you that he..."
"He said that he loves you." Ryoma removed the hat completely so that he could look Eiji straight in the eyes. "But he was having issues. Didn't ask what, he just said that he did. And he said the same thing you said; that he doesn't want to ruin what you have. But if you keep pussying around like this, you're never going to get anywhere. Life's too damn short for that."
"I think I know what issues he meant...", Eiji nodded and remembered the evening he stayed at Oishis room. So... Oishi loved him? Really loved him? "You sound like my Grandfather", he then said with a light chuckle, "And thank you O-chibi...."
"I do?" He made a small face. "Well, you know, my life's cut short. Well, shorter than a normal lifespan anyway, and I've had a lot of time to think about shit like this. What you want to get out of life and all."
Eiji nodded slightly. he didn't really knew what to say now.
There was a bit of a stretch of awkward silence, before Ryoma cleared his throat. "I'm depressing you, aren't I?"
There it was again, Eijis smile. He had to be happy, for Ryouma, for Oishi, and for everybody. "No.. not really, just... uun", he shook his head slightly, "Doesn't matter. Soooo you wanna see that show?"
He's pushing himself. Anyone can see that. Maybe he should comment on it. Or maybe not. Allow Eiji to keep at his game. If it made him feel better... Ryoma really didn't want people to feel bad because of him. The guilt over the pain he had caused Aniki and Taichi was enough. The guilt about his inability to help Fuji-senpai as well. "Yeah, sure."
"Cool, then.... I'll go grab my laptop and then we can watch it", the read head smiled and got up to run to his room to get is laptop.
"You're still cute, senpai," Ryoma said to the closed door, before heaving himself out of the wheelchair and onto the bed. Now he just had to wait.
