Shishido watched as the ball bounced out of the opposite court, just a little surprised that he'd managed to win this time around. Choutarou won against him in most of their matches (not that he was complaining that he'd won, but still... he'd sort of gotten used to loosing). "Good game" He called, jogging up to the net to shake hands.
Choutarou watched the ball bounce off the court. He was a bit surprised that he lost but, at the same time not so much. He shook his head slightly and headed towards the net to shake Shishido's hand. "Yeah it was." Choutarou smiled.
"What's wrong?" Shishido asked quietly, shaking the younger boy's hand firmly, "You weren't as focused as usual." Not that he couldn't win against a completely focused Choutarou.... but it did seem as though something had been distracting his doubles partner lately, which was the reason they'd been playing tennis in the first place. Maybe if he knew what was wrong he could help.
"Ah...nothing's wrong Shishido-san." Choutarou lied. "I'm fine." He pulled his hand back and scratched his head slightly.
Shishido stared up at Choutarou skeptically, "Are you sure?" he asked. He wasn't going to force the younger boy to tell him, but he really did want to know. Was it about Kaidoh? Hika-chan? Was he sick?
Choutarou nodded. "Of course." Maybe he'd say something later but, not at the moment. "Um...what have you been up to?"
"Nothing much," Shishido answered, shrugging and walking over to their stuff to pull out water bottles, "Aniki dragged me home for a bit to see 'kaa-san," he tossed Choutarou's to him and opened his own. Well if his partner didn't want to tell him, then he wouldn't pry. It was probably private or something.
"How is your mom?" Choutarou asked as he caught his bottle. He opened it and took a drink.
"Good, I guess," Shishido answered, tossing over a towel as well, "I was only there for a day or so. It looked like she was doing okay though."
"I'm starting to think that maybe I should have gone home during the break." Maybe...maybe not. As much as it would have been nice to see his parents and sister, he didn't want to have to answer questions that his parents would obviously ask. "It was kind of boring here..."
"I guess nothing interesting has been happening over break," Shishido agreed, sighing slightly, "What's wrong with being here though?" Choutarou hadn’t seemed to want to go home at the beginning of break. He wondered what had changed the younger boy's mind.
"Nothing..." Choutarou answered. "I just didn't do anything all break, that's all." That and he'd spent most of it thinking.
"Then you should do something before break ends," Shishido said, drinking some water as he wiped sweat off the back of his neck.
"But I don't know what to do." Choutarou commented, taking another drink of water and wiped the sweat off of his face.
"Don't ask me, I've done something for the break already," and it landed me with laps Shishido added silently, "Have you visited home yet?"
Choutarou shook his head. "I don't really plan to." He thought for a moment. "What did you do besides visit home?"
"Um..." Shoot. He hadn't meant to ever tell Choutarou about attempting to blow up the hot spring. It was bad enough that his boyfriend would probably be told by someone when he got back, but his doubles partner would be spared the horror, "I...spent time with aniki." Shishido had never been particularly good at lying on the spot.
Choutarou tilted his head. "I highly doubt that's all you did Shishido-san." He didn't think the older male spent that much time with his brother.
Shishido had no clue what to answer with. Spent quality time with Atobe? Urgh, he shuddered to think of what might have happened if he'd tried that. Hung out with Kentarou or someone? Not that wasn't really all that likely... Oh! "I spend some time with Zaizen," he said. It was true. He'd spent time with Zaizen. It was just what they'd been doing that he didn't want to say.
"Oh...What did you do...?" He honestly couldn't think of anything else to ask.
"We talked..." A little bit Shishido searched for a different topic, "Have you been training much?
"Not really..." Choutarou answered. He'd been really bad about that. Training seemed to be the last thing on his mind. It was dissappointing now that he was thinking about it.
"Hm," Shishido disapproved, although he wouldn't say so out loud, "Has Kaidoh been distracting you from training?"
Choutarou froze slightly... "Um... Kaidoh-kun... not exactly... in a way... but...he's hasn't been here all break so...no..." Kaidoh was a subject that he really didn't want to go near.
Shishido narrowed his eyes slightly at his doubles partner's hesitation, "What did he do to you?"
Choutarou bit his lip. "He didn't do anything Shishido-san..." It was quite the other way around in fact. He was the one that had done something.
"Then what's wrong?" Shishido asked, really wanting to know this time. If Kaidoh had hurt Choutarou then he'd have to pay a little visit to the former Seigaku regular.
"Um...maybe...we should go back to the dorms..." If he was going to talk about it, he'd rather talk about it in private rather than out where others could possibly hear.
"Alright then," Shishido agreed, putting his racket away and slinging his bag over his shoulder, "Let's go to my room then." Akaya wasn't there, so they'd have privacy.
Choutarou nodded "Alright." He put away his own racket. "You know Shishido-san...I don't think I've been in your room yet..." Shishido had been in his room but, not the other way around.
"Really?" Shishido scratched his head. He'd thought Choutarou had seen his room before. But now that he thought about it, he couldn't remember the younger boy ever being in his room, even before the rooms had been switched, "Well, I guess you'll be seeing it now then."
"I suppose so." Choutarou smiled as he finished putting away his things. He swug his bag over his shoulder.
Leading the way to his room, Shishido wondered what Kaidoh might have done to upset Choutarou. According to Choutarou himself, it wasn't Kaidoh's fault, but it wasn't in the younger boy's personality to put the blame on other people. Arriving at his room, Shishido opened the door for them both, motioning for the younger boy to go in first. It wasn't too messy today; he'd cleaned up most of his stuff.
Choutarou nodded and walked into the room. He waited for Shishido to come inside before he did anything.
Walking in and closing the door behind him, Shishido sat on the beds (they were pushed together again) and stared at his doubles partner, "So," he said, prompting Choutarou to speaking.
Choutarou leaned back against the wall. "Well... To put it simply..." Choutarou took a breath. "... we're... not together anymore..." It wasn't easy to say it aloud. He'd kept it to himself since it happened.
"Huh?" Shishido stared uncomprehendingly at Choutarou for almost a minute before saying something, "You're...not...? Is that why you were distracted?" He doubted that made much sense so he tried to start again, "You... broke up?"
Choutarou nodded slowly. "Yeah...we did..." Well... he broke up with Kaidoh but whatever... it meant the same thing. Right? Probably not.
"He broke up with you?" Shishido was pissed. How could Kaidoh do that to Choutarou! Crossing his arms, he scowled slightly. He'd definitely be having words with Kaidoh.
"No!" Choutarou said quickly. "It... was the other way around...." Had Shishido not seen his post a few weeks ago...? He didn't need his senpai going and yelling at Kaidoh for no reason. If anything, he was the one who should be yelled at.
"You...?" Shishido stared some more. Apparently today was his day to be confused, "Oh," He didn't quite get it, but it sort of made sense now. He had seen the post from a few weeks ago, "Are you...okay?" He ventured hesitantly.
"I guess..." Choutarou said. "I just feel bad about it now..." He sighed. "And I know it's going to be awkward sharing a room with him now... I don't even want to think about what going to happen when Inui-san finds out and Kaidoh-kun's little brother already doesn't like me..." And both of them happened to be next door to his room.
Shishido hesitated slightly, unsure if what he was about to offer would be welcome, "If you want you can stay in my room 'till Akaya gets back," he said quietly, "Then maybe you'll have some time to calm down..." not that that wouldn't be awkward, but maybe less awkward than sharing a room with Kaidoh and being neighbours with two people who might have some kind of grudge against him.
"Um...eheh... I don't know Shishido-san... would Kirihara-kun really be okay with that...?" Choutarou didn't really think so. "And I don't want to be a bother to you..."
"It wouldn't be a bother," Shishido answered truthfully, "And Akaya knows I'm not going to cheat on him, or he should, so he'll be okay," so long as he doesn't know he amended in his mind, "Are you sure you're okay with breaking up?" He knew it sucked to be dumped, but he couldn't imagine what it felt like to dump someone. Noticing that Choutarou was still standing, he patted the bed beside him, "Come sit, you don't need to stand over there."
Choutarou moved to sit next to Shishido. "I guess so... I'll have to be anyway..."
"Then you're not okay," Shishido said, glad that Choutarou at least didn't seem to be quite as bad as he'd been, "You know, it's okay to not be okay for a while instead of trying to be okay," had that made sense? It sort of did, but then, he'd been the one to say it. So lame.
Choutarou sighed. "I know... This is the first time I'm actually saying something about it..."
Apparently Choutarou had understood. Well then, "When did you...?" He asked, guessing that the younger boy would know what he was trying to say. It wasn't that the wanted to make the younger boy feel worse, but he was a bit curious as to when it had happened.
"Well the begininnig of this week..." Choutarou answered. "...And I didn't even tell him to his face... So I guess... that's a reason why I feel so bad..." Choutarou explained. "He's not back yet..." He leaned back slightly. "I couldn't wait until he got back..."
Shishido had to reach up to mess up Choutarou's hair slightly. It was just like his partner to feel guilty about that kind of thing, "How do you think he reacted?"
Choutarou shrugged. "I honestly don't know... I guess I'll see what happens when he does get back..." He leaned slightly into Shishido's touch.
Raising an eyebrow slightly, Shishido wondered what kind of thing Choutarou expected, "My offer's still up, if you want to take it," he said, letting his hand slide out of the younger boy's hair and onto his shoulder gently, "Are you worried?" the 'about when Kaidoh gets back' was left out. his partner could take it however he wanted.
"I’ll think about the offer,” Choutarou answered. He still wasn't too sure about it. "And yeah I am worried a little..."
"Alright," Shishido patted the younger boy's shoulder, "You can't do anything about it until he gets back, so don't worry. When he does, it probably would be too bad..." with 'probably' being the key word.
"True..." If anything, he didn't have really worry until Inui and Hazue found out... "I'll try not to worry too much then."
"So..." Shishido said, wondering what he was supposed to do next, "What are you going to do now that you're not dating that guy anymore?"
Choutarou shrugged. "I haven't thought about it." He answered. "Probably nothing. Just take care of Hika-chan and school work..."
"That's gonna be boring," Shishido remarked, noticing that his hand was still on Choutarou's shoulder and letting it slide off and onto the bed beside him.
"Well... there's also tennis." Choutarou added.
"You'll still be bored," Shishido said, frowning, "You need to get out and do things. You said yourself you haven't really done anything over the break."
"I don't know what I want to do." Choutarou sighed.
Shishido rolled his eyes, "Then think of something. Go somewhere with Hiyoshi or someone."
"I guess I could do that." He thought for a moment. "We should do something also Shishido-san."
Oh right. He could technically do things with Choutarou too. He'd forgotten for a minute, which was rather ridiculous. Shishido smiled faintly, "I guess we should. We haven't been doing things together lately, have we?"
Choutarou smiled and shook his head. "No we haven't. We've only played tennis a few times."
"Hmm," Shishido wondered if that meant he'd been neglecting his doubles partner, "Then you're right, we should do something together."
Choutarou nodded. "Mmhm." Now they just had to think of what to do. He didn't think there was really anything interesting on the school grounds except for the pool and the hot springs. Well, there was also the option of going off the school grounds for something fun to do. Except, he didn't know where they'd go.He sighed as he tried to think of something.
"Uh...What would you like to do then?" Shishido asked awkwardly. They could go for food or something he guessed, or maybe to see a movie? No, that would be too much like a date. He scratched his head.
“Um...Well.. We can go get something to eat that's not school food." Choutarou said after a moment. "And...I think I need to get some new things for Hika-chan as well..." He hadn't gotten any thing new for the cat in a while and she definitely was n't a small kitten anymore.
"That sounds good," Shishido said, glad that Choutarou had suggested something and he hadn't had to, "Hika-chan has grown quite a bit since you first got her hasn't she?"
"Yeah she has." Choutarou answered. "I've had her a little over a year."
"Does she still try to get out of your room?" Shishido asked, remembering the time Choutarou's cat had gotten out.
"Sometimes." He sighed. Hika-chan just didn't seem to want to stay inside. "I think I'm going to have to start bringing her out every now and then."
"She'd probably like that," Shishido agreed, grinning and leaning back on his elbows on the bed.
"I need to get her a leash first before I do though so she doesn't run off anywhere. I don't want to lose her." He remembered the one time he did lose the cat. He didn't want to have to go through that again.
"Does she have a collar?" Shishido asked. He didn't remember seeing a collar on the small cat, but he might have missed it. He'd never really looked to see if there was one after all.
"No, I need to get one of those for her also..." Choutarou said. "There's a small list of thing i need to get."
"Why don't we go tomorrow then," Shishido suggested, looking over at Choutarou. It seemed the younger boy had forgotten about breaking up with Kaidoh...for now anyway.
Choutarou smiled and nodded. "Tomorrow's fine." Though, anytime was probably fine.
