battle wounds

I would've thought that a cut on the inner edge of the last digit of my left middle finger* would be easy enough to avoid in everyday actions.
I've found that I'm pressing it against things an incredible amount of the time.
One is reminded of how we use all of our digits when watching a pianist, or playing cat's cradle, or typing, but I never would've thought I used that small portion of that one finger all that often, just to steady things or push them or hold something, little everyday tasks.
I'm reminded of someone saying that we'd have horrible balance without our little toes. It seems the human body works together in wonderful concert. Except for the appendix. Way to go, evolution, on developing an organ whose only function is to get infected and explode, killing us.
