Seriously, full of flowers!

The theme for this year's Project calendar is flowers. So, since I can't seem to contribute in any other meaningful way, I have been doing my best to take as many flower pictures as I can.

Flistren, I have lived here for nigh seven years. How did I not notice Albuquerque was FULL OF FLOWERS?

Possibly it's like when you learn drums, and suddenly you home in on the drum parts in songs. Only in this case, I see flowers everywhere. EVERYWHERE. There are the cultivated beds of them, in yards and on the streets (Louisiana and Carlisle have some nice ones). But there's also random patches all around the university, on the streets, hanging out next to the freeway or in random beds outside stores. All different colors! All different types! Not only that, but the trees! The trees, they BLOOM! I didn't know Albuquerque had as many cherry trees as it did--at least, there are ones over by me that were amazing colors this Spring--but it's also got white blossomed trees (of two different types, I think) and purple blossomed trees that may go along with the pink blossomed trees. The purple/pink ones are amazing to look at; they are covered in delicate flowers, so much it looks like the trees is subtly wilting in the sun. It's a gorgeous effect. Not to mention the weird tree in the parking lot at work, which has these fringe-y pink fans all over it.

Of course, I have no idea what most of these are. The lavendar I recognize now--it grows huge and is COVERED IN BEES, heh, and the number and plenty make me think ABQ has another reason for being so sleepy--but there are other bushes with darker purple flowers. There are gladiola looking plants that are NOT glads, they are too hairy and fierce. There is this plant (pardon the crap picture, I cut it out of the background of another one):

Which you see EVERYWHERE. The stalks are really long and hang over, and it comes in yellow and pink. It looks like the stems themselves turn pink as the flower buds, but I cannot swear to that. It is awesome and did I mention I see it EVERYWHERE? Driving up Gibson today, it was all over both sides of the road in big patches, all HERE I AM, NEON PINK AND AWESOME.

'Course, the interesting thing is that you get this against patches of purple and yellow, and it looks amazing. There's a patch by the apartments off the frontage as you come up to Montgomery that is a perfect mix of the three colors. I keep saying I'm gonna try to go and get a shot of it, but I dunno if I'd do it justice on foot.

It's been fun to be able to see the city with these eyes, though, and to see how many small spaces have been subtly beautified in this way. It's been fun to get the camera out and try to capture it all, too! I am learning. This is a good thing! (Though I have yet to master the Tewa sentence "Look at all the flowers!" I am working on it, though.)
