First day at work: not so bad!

Jun 15, 2009 22:30

Whee, I did it! I made it to work almost on time--pretty much on the minute! I'd wanted to be earlier but a malfunctioning alarm clock took that out. I'm going to jigger that tonight so I don't get up too early and therefore want to sleep late.

Anyways, the eight hour stretch wasn't terrible, mostly because I'll be a busy girl all week. One of our deadlines was today, so all day was calls from scholars and parents about that, not to mention the mail haul. I did spend the first two hours randomly doing tasks every which way because I was both setting up the computer AND dealing with calls AND trying to get the Monday work (stuff due in the morning on Mondays) in. Then I had to get reg access up front from the tech company guy. None too bad, except we had to set up someone else, too, and my tongue was all WHUT? about it. But I eventually got it across.

I did spend a chunk of time talking to the tech, too. Nice guy. Knows a friend of mine in Albuquerque. Under the impression I was techy, which I didn't totally disabuse, though I made with the wavy hands and was like, "Homebrew, homebrew! Regedit still makes me break out in hives! I didn't know what a WHACKWHACK was!" But we'd had some of the same experiences in dealing with machines, so it was cool to hear those, and about his other jobs.

And then the day went VWOOSH. I ended up on lunch late, and then got the mail late, and so was late in sorting it--and that got me into trouble. 'Cause I was there, finishing things off, after five. And my boss had to hit me in the nose with a rolled up newspaper about it. I was a bit shirty, too, because it's been something like two years since I was on a forty hour schedule, and I didn't remember the rules being THAT strict. But she was like THERE IS NO VOLUNTEERING. YOU GET PAID. CHILD. AND THIS! IS! OT!*

So I have to lose fifteen minutes over this week. This, I assure you, is not as hard as it looks. Uh. I think.

And I had another query for the flist tonight, but heck if I can remember it right now! Heh, thanks for listening to the ramble! Especially since something in these paragraphs has cursed my upcoming experiences. May not be this week. But it will get me...

*Okay, so this is overplayed, but it still makes me giggle

job, i bring this on myself
