The Reader's Have Chosen is a monthly listing of the best fanfiction on the net--chosen by you.
Why did we do it? We have made it our mission to discover and give recognition to the fabulous authors of the fanfiction community that we love, though they sometimes go unnoticed. R.H.C. is the spawn of years of frustration and internet research, striving to keep abreast of the best fanfiction on the net but just not having the time to spend wading through the river of available content. It is our hope that you find this monthly archive useful and easy to navigate while also supplying you with your monthly fix of fanfiction!
How does this work? Each month, we will create a polling list based on the combined suggestions from various members on the forum. From there, members (you must be registered at the forum to vote) can vote for their favorite piece of fanfiction. The recommendations with the most votes will be posted on the Monthly Recommendation page on the site. The start of each month will wipe the slate clean and any previous recommendations must be made again to be added to the poll. Chosen fanfiction pieces will be archived on the Monthly Recommendation page and will not be eligible for further recommendations.
How involved do you have to be? You can be a forum junkie or just stick around to read and vote. Ultimately, R.H.C. would function best if everyone stayed involved, but we understand that random acts of nature, fandom, and desire to be chronically anonymous (we understand!) can keep you from participating fully. If all you do is drop by to read the Monthly Recommendations, we still feel that we have done our part.
JOB TITLE: Fanfiction Scout
JOB DESCRIPTION: While rec'cing is open to every member of the RHC community, fanfiction scouts are there to guarantee new recommendations are added to the community each week. Obviously, this means scouts are required to post to their designated fandoms at least once weekly* (other fandom recs are allowed but do not count towards your minimum required).
Other duties include:
• Keeping your designated section tidy (i.e. making sure posting procedures are followed and making sure links work).
• Contributing monthly to The Campfire section with a fanfiction review.*
• Contributing to scheduled staff meetings.
• Answering questions from members about posting.
• Optional: Helping with the creation of monthly polls.
• Optional: Working with writing staff in the creation and publishing of featured articles.
SECTIONS: Monthly Recommendations, The Campfire, Staff Area
HOW TO APPLY:
To apply, you can PM scottishfae at the
RHC forums, you can
email me, or message ishi_ungawarui through LJ with the following information:
• Approximately how many hours spent weekly reading fanfiction.
• Fandoms you are active in.
• Top three fandoms you would like to be in charge of for RHC. Sections that don't have subsections (ex: movies, video games) and any of the miscellaneous sections can have multiple scouts. If you don't see your specific fandom in the list, don't despair. Include your fandom with what section it should be put in (TV, books, anime, etc). It will more than likely belongs to an umbrella section or subsection.
• Brief description of your regular schedule (ex: any times you know you won't be available, etc)
*FOOTNOTES:
We understand that real life comes first. So, if there is ever a time where you cannot do the recommendations or reviews, all you need to do is let us know by replying to the MIA thread in the Staff Area. We will make exceptions and work with your schedule.
A review, for The Campfire, is considered to be a recommendation of a story. In other words, when you post a review you are exempt from posting a recommendation for that week. (You are welcome to continue rec'cing, however.)
