Two Days And Counting...
Til the student end of my first year of teaching. Wow, what a ride this has been. Still, given what my principal has told me, AND the assistant principal who was in charge of the seventh grade - I may not be the darling that one of the other math teachers is reported to be, but I'm ALSO getting the sweet assignments too. And they both told me exactly why.
They've noticed I have two main skills when it comes to teaching. The first is the ease with which I use new technology and computers. Heck, the other teachers on my team stopped going and bugging the computer tech that is ON OUR HALL and started bugging me for tech support. Which I was happy to provide. (In fact, some of the other 7th grade math teachers asked me to check something once or twice.)
The second skill is mathematics. They've both watched me teach, watched me work with my students to really get them to master the material. So when they have a computer knowledge/business class slot open that requires a lot of math skill...
They give it to me. When I told my principal I had this project idea pop into my head about having the 8th grade students I teach run the school store as part of the curriculum, his face lit up.
So I think I'm doing good :)
