It seems like everything has changed completely in the last week. At least at school. I think part of it is that it feels like the pace picks up immensely as the school year nears the close. We are now 4 days away from the beginning of Summer Break, and my head is spinning.
So rather than go into the excruciatingly dull paperwork whirlwind that I find myself in as a homeroom subject-area teacher....
Today was field day. It was raining. We tried to have it anyway. Volleyball and Basketball in the Gym got pre-empted by the 8th grade plans - they needed a large open area that was dry, and they were going to need it all day. So we went outside and did soccer and outdoor volleyball. I spent most of the morning playing with the boys' volleyball - then went over and kept score while the teachers beat the pants off the girls. Twice.
Dunno how soccer went. XD Then we went around to the bus canopy for track and field. That was fun, especially because I'd not gotten a chance to see any of the school's track meets. So I got to watch my students who were on the team run.
And then I had to help one poor girl to the office because she'd overexerted herself badly. We had a total of about 3 people down from the heat. They weren't drinking enough. (In fact, the list of changes I'm going to suggest for next year is getting rather long.)
We had a tug-of-war, my team's kids won, girls and boys. We've got some powerful students, both athletically and academically, on our team....
Then we had lunch. Our afternoon of softball was cancelled by rain, so we sort of had music and dancing and movies and stuff. It worked/didn't work. I think our grade level administrator was going to blow a gasket by the time we took our kids down to the gym, where they had inflatables setup. (Think: Moon walk)
Then we went back and watched movies. The Sandlot was on, and my kids love that movie as much as I do, which was great.
Of note was the conversation I had with my principal this morning. He explained to me a little of what they have planned for me next year.
1. I'm pretty sure I'm definitely at Cousins.
2. I'm going to be doing either Title 1 Mathematics, or...
3. I will be in the computer classroom, teaching computers, business math, and New Century, which is a math program.
So yeah, I won't be on a grade-level team, and will be an Exploratory (read: Elective) teacher. I have no homeroom, no responsibility to take students to lunch...and may have a LOT of flexibility when it comes to my curriculum.
