So yeah. Few years ago, actually...close to 5 or 6 now, I bought a laptop for about a grand, with the money from my first ever yearly bonus check at what is now Solix, Inc.
I wish I could say it suffered from a sudden, severe hemorraging, or power strike, or some other momentous obliteration. Something spectacular. After all, it's been with me longer than any other computer I've had.
Nope. It died slowly. At first, it was nothing major. It overheated easily. It got too hot, then forced shutdown. Usually when I was trying to play a game or something. Then, it wouldn't play media very long, without forcing a shutdown. (I know what you're thinking, probably the RAM.) Then, a few days ago, I tried to load up my email program. It told me I needed to enter account information. Essentially, my email program had been reset. There were other signs as well, but that lead me to believe that there was a virus on it.
Only, here's the kicker. I disconnected it from the network. I started running a virus scanner. Except that because of the heat issue, it will run the virus scanner for about 15-20 minutes before shutting down.
I could take it to get repaired, I suppose, but it's old enough now that for the cost of repair, I could, theoretically, get a brand new laptop that's better than that one.
Blarg! So if anyone has any fixing advice, I'm all ears.
Also: I am getting a cold. :(
Oh, and Jaime, you still play LOTRO? Picked up a trial account.
