No, seriously, Rory is Tip Dorrit. How is that even possible???

I knew that Arthur Darvill had been in Little Dorrit, but there are, like, seven million people in that miniseries, so I assumed he was someone I wasn't remembering. I just... what. I know this to be a fact, and I still can't make my brain accept it.

So for a few days, my reaction to Little Dorrit has been about evenly split between "awwww...." and "Seriously, Andy, what was up with that 'in vain have I struggled' line at the beginning of Mr. Dorrit's proposal?" Pride and Prejudice in-jokes for the huh?

At least one of them has done the "when you think about the Victorians, you might think of the genteel country-house world of Jane Austen, but Charles Dickens presents gritty realism in his sketches of city life" opening*, and several of them do immediately equate--like some [columnists/bloggers/people named Joe Wright] who constantly disparage ( Read more... )

I feel as if my icons are a bit backwards on these Little Dorrit posts: in the first installment, the action and even the emotional impact seem tipped slightly more toward Arthur Clennam than Amy Dorrit, but in the second installment, Amy's emotional life comes very much to the fore.

The first two hours aired yesterday on PBS, but I'm sure they'll be on again soon. In related news, I may have a wee little crush on Arthur Clennam, at least as portrayed by Matthew Macfadyen.
