I went on a book-trek today in the library, and actually came out with things that are potentially useful to my dissertation--imagine that! In order to get to some of those books, however, I walked past a shelf of books on ghosts and fairies and suchlike, and opened one of these books to a random page, which featured a brief description of a type of Japanese ghost (I've forgotten the name now, alas!). In a completely nonchalant way, the author commented that if you wanted to escape from this ghost, you should throw a handful of candy behind you as you run, because 'like most ghosts, she is obsessive-compulsive and will have to pick up the candy you've dropped.'
Seriously, did everyone else already know that ghosts are supposed to be obsessive-compulsive? Because that was easily the best thing I read all day. (I think the 'of course' tone had something to do with it, too.)
It's been one of those fidgety days where I accomplish nothing. I just want to be doing something, and I'm not sure what it is. But I found an article that talks about the use of Shakespeare in Sandman, Terry Pratchett, and "The Shakespeare Code," and an interview with David Tennant about playing Hamlet (to be saved till after I've seen him do it), so there is that.
