a note to self, after looking at some notes I took a while ago
It was probably a sign that I needed to call it a day when, in the margins of an article on Much Ado About Nothing that was dismissive of "Petrarchan" figures and "effeminate" rhetoric (in contrast to the play's "manly prose"), my notes started devolving into sarcastic comments like, "o no! not the dreaded rhetoric! we can't be having that sort of thing in a Shakespeare play!"
Because I'm totally going to have to reread the article now. And clearly, my opinion of it was not high in the first place. Bah.
Oh--also, I had this mildly weird dream last night in which I was a little girl who was being kidnapped by a mermaid. Mostly it involved a lot of running and hiding on my part, and being discovered by the mermaid's pet bird, who would find me in all the places the mermaid couldn't go... I have no idea.
