We've been rescued.

It seemed like an eternity.
I don't know why. Well, actually I do, but I choose to ignore that tight feeling in my stomach. This morning, I've heard no annoying guard arguing behind the door who is to come in and bring us supplies. It was silent. Completely and utterly silent.

The stillness around us alarmed me - what the hell is going on around here? I woke up Kankuro and put my ear to the door - nothing. Not even the hollow echo of the watchman's footsteps - nothing. The dungeon was completely silent and still.

Kankuro slumped against the wall - despite the healing, he's still not well. He's still pretty weak and has these spells that take most of his energy. I sat next to him, in attempts to comfort him but only received

"I'm fine, Temari."

Well. At least i got a thank you.

I was dying to know what was going on, but I had to curb my curiosity and wait until some sort of an idnication of movement appeared.

I didn't have to wait long..

The door litteraly exploded, debree, dust flying everywhere. I covered my mouth, taking a giant leap backwards. Kankuro didn't move, and when I called out to him - he didn't answer. He must have passed out. Steadying myself on my feet (which are none too sturdy) I got ready for a fight. Given the fatigue I knew, this fight would probably be my last, but I was NOT going to go down without it.

When the chaos cleared, I saw an unknown face, with the leaf head protector adorning his forehead. Leaf? HERE?

It took me a while but suddenly it hit me.

WE WERE BEING RESCUED!!! And that..that meant that GAARA was somewhere around here. I knew he was, I JUST knew it. My heart wouldn't deceive me like that - I knew, I KNEW he wouldn't leave us in this terrible situation.

"Are you all right?" He glared from under his forehead.

Waving my hand in the air, to clear it and make it suitable for breathing I glanced at him.

"Who are you?"
"My name is Sushi Otaro, and I was sent here by Hokage-sama to aid in your rescue"
"My brother, where's my brother?"
"That I don't know..." He replied before giving Kankuro a glance. "Is he all right?"
"I don't know...Help me get him into an upright position."

Both of us together we dragged Kankuro to his feet and sandwiching him between our bodies looked at each other.
"There's a way out of here, it's a tunnel. Follow me."

Carefully we exited the cell that has been my brother's and mine home for the past week or so. Something about this Sushi..Otaro..whatever his name was seemed fishy but I was too tired and too annoyed to pay any attention. His eyes seemed to be glued to my face, how irritating. Finally, loosing the last tid bits of my patience I snapped.

"What are YOU staring at? You've NEVER seen a prisoner before?"

He smiled and something in that smile seemed....familiar. With a swift movement, he shouldered Kankuro off to me, performed the seals to undo the henge and caught my brother before my knees gave out. I gasped in surprised, how uncharactersitic of me.

"..S..SASUKE!!"

He gave me a grin.

"Hey."
"W..WHAT are YOU doing here????"
"I told you, I'm here to assist with your rescue."

I raised my eyebrow, wondering how is it that Tsunade didn't THINK that she's SENDING him RIGHT into Orochimaru's hands. I wanted to say something, but decided to stay quiet. We walked down the corridor.

"How did you know we were here?" I questioned him. This tunnel is not very known, I doubt the Konoha info collectors would have known of it. He looked at me.

"Kabuto."
"Kabuto what?"
"He led me here."

I drew in a sharp breath of air. That son of a bitch....

"Did you fight him?"
"Yeah."
"What happened?"

It was Sasuke's turn to look at me, surprised.
"What does it matter?"
"TELL ME!"
"We fought...you know..the usuall..insulted each other's mothers, whatever you do during that time."
"Where is he now?"
"He disappeared."

My heart sank.
"Where to?"
"Where to what?"
"Where did he disappear to?"
"I don't know...what does it matter?"
"JUST FUCKING TELL ME!" I harped.
"Why are you SO ADAMANT about that bastard?" He snarled back.

His reaction made me realize that I was acting like a moron. Taking a deep breath I calmed myself down.

"Sorry..I just don't want him to ambush us."
Whether Sasuke believed me or not, I don't know and don't care - but he seized his questions. Although I said no more about Kabuto, that fact just made me even more uneasy. Kabuto wouldn't withdraw without a fight unless an order has been given. He lives, breathes and sees Orochimaru's well being in everything. For him, Orochimaru is like God.

Well, heck to him Orochimaru is God.

Thus..they must have some sort of a lead on Yanagi's whereabouts..or who it is that could read the scroll. But this had to wait until I had my brothers alone - so we could come up with some sort of a plan. For that moment in time, we were walking in the dank innards of a hidden passage that lead to the outside of the palace.

"How did you know about this?" Sasuke asked, breaking my concentration.
"Hn? How do I know about what?"
"This passage."

I smiled at him.

"Sasuke, I was born and grew up here. There's not a single patch that I don't know like the back of my hand. Why?"
"Just wondering."

We continued to approach our destination.
"Hey, Duckass."
He looked at me and I gave him a genuine smile.
"Thank you."

The only thing separating us from freedom are a few more meters of solid wall and hallways.
I can't wait..
