Ueda broods over a plan to win Ryo for himself. But first of all, he needs to clarify his enemy, is it Jin? Or Yamashita? He can’t grasp the situation because recently he hasn’t heard Jin talk much about Ryo, and at the same time, he sees Yamashita with Ryo a lot. Either Ryo is cheating on Jin with Yamashita, or Jin and Ryo are done with and Ryo has already started a new relationship with Yamashita. Worse still, are they on rotation? Threesome? Damn, Ueda thought, when would he get his share.
Ueda wasn’t the possessive or aggressive type in his friend’s eyes. On the outside he was more than polite and gentlemanly, always speaking in quiet voices and agreeing with the flow, never a threat to anybody. Ueda was sick of that image, he built it since he knew his fans adored that side of him, but deep down he knew he was the silently observant type, more like a snake, slithering around the bushes and then suddenly grabbing his prey with his jaws. That was the real him, and Ueda was glad he hid that side of him pretty well from his friends, he has actually ruined and dumped a lot of sad souls that swore absolute devotion to him. Ever since months though, he lost interest in this fast catch game, he was prying on his new found prey, Nishikido Ryo. Someone heavenly and hard to reach. Ueda rolled his tongue as he savored the taste of Ryo in his imagination.
Yamapi waits for Ryo outside his car in the chilly autumn wind at the road construction. This was officially their first “date”, Yamapi was unable to calm his nervousness, he wondered how it was going to be without their court jester Bakanishi.
Ryo caught sight of Yamapi and waved and walked over with a big bright smile.
“You don’t look like you’ve worked like 18 hours today.” Yamapi jeered.
Ryo bit his lower lip to dampen his smile, little did Pi know that he had waited all afternoon for their “date”, Ryo just nodded as he came up to Pi. “Well it’s Friday and I’m just excited.” Ryo lied. “Where are we going?”
That was the thing Yamapi had been thinking all afternoon. He wanted to spend some good quality time with Ryo, so going to the noisy crowded clubs were not an option. Restaurants were probably all closed at this hour, it was a bit too chilly for parks or beaches. He had decided it was best to make some light snacks and watch DVD in the comfort of home, he thought about his place, but rejected the idea after worrying about what Ryo would think. Yamapi hadn’t officially confessed to Ryo, and he was still pretty concerned and worried that Ryo would freak out with the idea, especially if he brought him to his home, as if he was trying to push him further. Yamapi groaned at his own brain storming that was hammering his head.
“Let’s go back to your place,” Pi smiled softly, “we could watch a movie and have some peace and quiet.” And cuddle on the couch, Pi continued in his head.
Ryo’s eyes widened with joy at the idea. “Great! I know a good movie! I could make salsa for tortillas too!”
Yamapi couldn’t help smiling at the exuberance emitted from Ryo. His cute reactions, shy expressions and toothy smiles were overthrowing him like a wave.
On the way home, Ryo was happily talking about his favourite movies. Pi learnt that Ryo likes movies set on historical backgrounds, he also liked dark sophisticated movies and superhero ones. Yamapi peered to Ryo’s side as he listened intently to Ryo discussing movies animatedly, when Ryo caught him peering, he would suddenly quiet down and apologize for being too excited. Yamapi laughed at that and continued driving. How was it possible that Ryo was cuter than any cute girl Yamapi had been with.
Jin was not home, as usual, on a Friday night, and Ryo didn’t seem bothered either, which made Yamapi quite glad. Ryo excused himself for a quick shower as he had been in the construction sites and Yamapi went on into the kitchen to prepare their snacks. He was in the middle of cutting the tomatoes for the salsa when Ryo came out with water dripping off his hair and smelling all fresh. Ryo insisted on taking over the job and shooed Yamapi over to the living room to pick out the movie. They finally settled on the couch with a bowl of crisps and the salsa. The couch was big and Yamapi groused to himself from the big distance between them, not to mention the big bowl of crisps occupying the space.
They settled down quietly and dimmed the lights for the movie. It turned out to be a pretty boring movie and all Yamapi could think about was how to empty the bowl of tacos so he could remove the obstable. He concentrated on stuffing the crisps one after another until his and Ryo’s hand suddenly bumped when they were grabbing the chips from the bowl which was already emptied by Pi’s efforts. Ryo looked down surprisingly at the bowl. “Eh? I’ve only had like 3!” Ryo cried, and turned to look at Pi.
“Are you really hungry?” Ryo furrowed his brows and pretended to be angry.
Pi didn’t really know how to answer, especially since his mouth was still stuffed with chips. He watched as Ryo stood up with the bowl and motioned to the direction of the kitchen.
“I’ll bring you more if you’re so starved…” Ryo began, but he was pulled back suddenly by a hand and landed with a thump on Pi’s lap with the bowl flying off to the ground, which was luckily made of wood.
Ryo widened his eyes in astonishment as he was in this princess position on Pi’s lap, he looked at Pi bewildered by the turn of events. Pi’s was also looking at him somewhat shocked at what he had just done. Part of him was afraid Ryo would really bring out more food when he was too full to stuff in, and part of him just didn’t want Ryo to leave his proximity. Unknowingly his hand reached out and then, here they were, in this “uncomfortable” position, both looking at each other with awe and flushing faces, propitiously less so from the darkened surroundings.
“…I take it you’re full…” Ryo spoke up weakly when the moment of silence got too long to bear.
Not for you I’m not… Yamapi said to himself. This was a good time. Here Ryo was, half sitting on his lap, face only half a foot away. Music from the TV was soft, the room was dim, and they were alone.
Yamapi leaned in a bit to test Ryo’s response, he could smell Ryo’s floral shampoo from the distance and it empowered him with more ambition. He felt Ryo’s tendency to move back a little. “Can I…” Yamapi whispered, he leaned in more, both of their breathing became heavy as the next step became more perceptible. Ryo’s face was only centimeters away now and Pi could see Ryo’s long lashes fluttering as Ryo blinked. Their expired breath merged as their distance diminished.
Only a few more centimeters.
“YAHOOOOOOOO!!!!!” A loud scream came from the door which caused Ryo and Yamapi to immediately push away from each other.
“ANYBODY HOMEEEE????” another scream came from the genkan. Jin was home and it was obvious he was quite drunk.
Ryo rolled his eyes as he scrambled up and patted off some inexistent dust from his bum. “Ahh….Jin’s back, I’ll go check on him…”
A sigh escaped Yamapi’s lips as he got up too. He combed through his hair with his fingers hoping to clear his mind. They were so close, so close. Yamapi bit his lip in frustration. Maybe they really should have gone to his place, he grumbled to himself. At least though, Ryo didn’t reject him. Yamapi smiled at the little momentum he received to carry on pursuing.
After the chaos of quieting up and bringing Jin to bed, they silently cleaned up the living room and Ryo saw Yamapi out the door.
“Good night.” Ryo whispered as his eyes darted at the ground, he was extremely embarrassed about what they were doing just now. If Jin was any more conscious, they would have been caught on spot, KISSING!? Ryo tried to shake off the thoughts, he really liked Yamapi, and just now the moment felt so magical and right. He felt a little lost that in the end he wasn’t able to feel those lips on his, but on the other hand he was relieved they didn’t cross the line.
Yamapi looked worryingly at Ryo’s perplexed face and the lack of eye contact.
“Ne… Ryo, we can meet again right?”
Yamapi was equally nervous about the situation, he hoped Ryo wasn’t traumatized by it. He really couldn’t bear ending up like this.
Ryo lifted his head and looked up straight at Pi with his large droopy glossy eyes which caught Pi off guard, Pi was absolutely sure nobody but nobody could resist such naturally expressive eyes and his heart jumped as he waited for Ryo to talk.
“… Pi… I… I’m sorry for always crying like a baby, I hope you don’t find me stupid…”
Pi was shocked to hear the statement. The adjective had never once crossed his mind, he had to make sure Ryo understood that as he quickly tried to respond.
Ryo cut in before him though, so Pi swallowed his words and listened intently.
“… I don’t know…”
Pi felt the uncertainty in Ryo’s voice, if he didn’t salvage the situation, he was almost sure their relationship would go straight down the drain
“LISTEN RYO.” Pi almost shouted over Ryo’s small voice.
Ryo was cut abruptly as he looked at Pi with wide questioning eyes.
Pi found it almost impossible to look at Ryo and at the same time be able to make himself clear. His shoulders tightened as he clenched his fists and looked down at the ground. “RYO…I have never ever found you stupid. I don’t mind you crying on me because I am glad I could be there for you and I want to hold you and kiss you and erase all your sorrows… I want to tell you…”
Pi looked up to Ryo’s eyes slowly to catch his response. “What I want to say is…” Pi slowed down and looked directly at Ryo. “I like you, no, I have fallen in love with you…”
Ryo’s expression was one of confusion and awe. Pi couldn’t read it correctly as he waited in apprehension. There, he had given it all, the result was either victory or failure.
Pi was startled when Ryo stepped forward and dropped his arms around himself. For a moment he was immobilized by his shock, but when Ryo leaned his head onto his shoulder, Pi recognized the meaning, he wrapped his arms around Ryo’s slim body and pulled him tighter, burying his nose in Ryo’s fluffy jet black hair. It was a “yes”, and Pi was so moved he was close to tears.
“WHAOOO! Finally!!!”
Pi and Ryo jumped apart when they heard the familiar voice of their supposed alcohol befuddled friend.
“Took you guys long enough” Jin laughed.
Pi glared at Jin and Ryo just looked plain surprised.
“Look, Ok, ok, I wasn’t that drunk, I just wanted to see what you guys were gonna do when you thought nobody was prying…” Jin defended, he cautiously walked backwards when the angry looking Pi clicked his knuckles and scowled at him.
“Come on, come on…” Jin continued with his wry smile, “Group hug?” Jin opened his arms out in front of him, “Hey, that’s not how to treat a cute little cupid right?” He continued stepping back when Pi’s pissed look failed to diminish.
“GROUP HUG?!” Jin turned his head in horror as he starred at Ryo who was slamming his fist in the palm of his other hand, it’s been a long time he had seen Ryo so outraged.
“Group punch is what you’re asking for!!” Ryo continued, as he and Pi closed in on Jin till Jin fell backwards in the genkan, Pi and Ryo got down and started tickling Jin till they were all tickling each other, in the end, all three giggling and rolling on the floor.
