“Do you think you owe me an explanation?” Jin crossed his arms and stood in front of Yamapi. Yamapi looked up from his position sitting at a table in the company café.

“It’s not what you think it is.” Yamapi looked down again and continued his lunch. And it really wasn’t what Jin thought it was, so he wasn’t lying one bit. Yamapi was quite certain Jin would have developed some rather dirty imaginations of him and Ryo last night. And the truth was he and Ryo were nothing but friends and they had done nothing other than what friends would do, even though Pi would probably hoped that there was something more. He was still thinking about how Ryo had withdrawn from him that morning, it would be horrible if all they’d built up last night was destroyed by him trying to cross the line. Pi felt his heart ache at the thought, he would very much rather keep their current friendship than to have nothing at all.

Jin sat down across Pi and glared at Pi so much that Pi could feel his burning stare even though he was looking down at his pasta. “Like I would trust you.” Jin growled. “And don’t forget, you have a girlfriend.”

“Listen, I told you we broke up, and don’t forget, you and Ryo aren’t even a couple!” Yamapi yelled back at Jin. Who was Jin to lecture him now about relationships when Jin was the one always playing the field disregarding the whole idea of loyalty and trust.

They both glared at each other until Jin couldn’t take Yamapi’s serious face anymore and broke into giggles. He laughed too hard Yamapi had to kick him under the table so they wouldn’t attract any more attention.

“So you do like Ryo…”Jin started after successfully suppressing his giggly nerve.

Yamapi froze. Was he that obvious? Shit.

“No? O, then never mind.” Jin nodded and slowly got up from his seat.

“Hey! What do you mean?” Pi stood up and pulled Jin down back on his seat.

“Eh? Nothing… just curious.” Jin smirked.

Ueda watched from a distance, the mini commotion between Jin and Yamapi. Hearing fragments of sentences with “Ryo” involved. He clenched his fists around his coffee mug, hating the sly grin on Jin’s face. If anything he was almost certain Jin was again boasting about his popularity with everyone or his lecherous lifestyle. Jin didn’t deserve anybody, and definitely not Ryo, not his Ryo.

Ryo slowly walked back to the studio where he was going to start another day of work. He wondered if he was sick because his head was kind of spinning and an occasional strong beat would hit his chest as if his heart was going to explode, on top of that he couldn’t help but notice some people whispering and pointing at him on the streets. The overwhelming uneasiness almost made Ryo vomit. Maybe onigiris weren’t meant to be taken with milk afterall.

Ryo let out a sigh. He had finally let it all out, told someone about his deepest insecurities and cried like a baby yearning for his mother. He could finally let it all behind and start a new life, or could he? Ryo felt like a new bundle of questions were coming his way, why did he confess to Yamashita out of all people something that he intended to keep secret all his life. Ryo has been taught from young age to never show his weak side, you can be weak but overtly showing it would mean danger nonetheless. Ryo has never once cried or asked for comfort from anyone even when he was bullied at highschool for looking like an elementary kid, even when he was rejected multiple times by girls that were a head taller than him. He never once seeked help from others, Nishikido the great never needed condolence or assistance.

But the feeling he had now wasn’t one he imagined would come with being a weakling. Instead of feeling naked and vulnerable, the warmth and care was wrapping around him like a blanket, and Yamashita’s existence was haunting his every thought.

“Having a celebrity friend doesn’t make you one!” Ishikawa, the man who had left Ryo alone to clean up popped up from his chair beside Higashiyama sensei and snatched Ryo’s sunglasses. “Pleaase, do realize your circumstances.” The man clicked his tongue and sat down again.

“Hey! Give that back!”

Ryo frantically tried to grab Yamapi’s shades back but the man refused to let go.

“Do get to work Nishikido, it’s not a playground here.” The man clicked his tongue again and got back to pretending to work.

Ryo frowned and turned to leave. No point in making a big fuss with a tattletale and teacher’s pet, that was another thing he’d learnt. He’ll find some other way to make it even with this rascal.

***************

Ueda had to think of a way to get closer to Ryo, if any way it was only to save him from Jin.

It was an unwavering desire, from the first time he had seen Ryo’s face behind the swaying candle light in the bar, seeing him lift Jin’s arm over his shoulder, seeing him doze off on a bench, seeing him in his well fitted black suit, imagining the sexiness of his lean body. It was like an epiphany, a sudden strike of understanding. Ryo was the one he had been searching. Ueda would appreciate Ryo much more than anyone in the world. He could take care of Ryo with his strong arms and well trained body. They were meant for each other. He only had to let Ryo acknowledge his thoughts and share the same belief.

“Ryo-chan!”

Ryo turned his head and saw Ueda coming towards him, he was smiling politely and lightly waving his hand. Ryo nodded in reply, although a bit perplexed on his sudden appearance. They were already shooting a model that afternoon and there was no lineup for another artist.

“Hey!” Ueda was up behind Ryo now, and he patted Ryo hard on the shoulder. “I was just around the area and thought I’d come and see how you were doing.”

Ryo looked at Ueda eyes wide with surprise. This guy just seemed to pop up from nowhere all the time, but Ueda was looking very friendly and concerned, though Ryo wasn’t one to be essentially ecstatic about “friendliness” in a sense, Ueda’s sincerity made Ryo smile, especially when Ishikawa was giving him a very hard time at work, bossing him around and yelling at him for totally irrelevant things.

“Hey Ueda.” Ryo smiled back in a hushed voice. Higashiyama sensei was doing a shoot and the teacher never liked noise.

“Please, call me Tatsuya.” “By the way, do you have anything on tonight, let’s go out for a drink or something…”

Ueda’s sentence was stopped by Ishikawa butting in between them. “Nishikido, you do understand very well this is a workplace.” Ishikawa took a better look at Ueda and suddenly his frowned face softened into a Hypocritical beam. “Why Ueda san, what brings you here?”

It wasn’t a hard situation to grasp and Ueda couldn’t help snicker at the opportunity.

“I hope” Ueda said sternly, “that you are not trying to make work harder for my friend here.”

Ishikawa widened his eyes in shock and quickly bowed, he then fished out Ryo’s shades from his pocket and handed them back to Ueda apologizing multiple times during so.

It was probably a bad idea, surely Ishikawa would find his way to revenge Ryo after this, but that moment was sure a joy for Ryo. He couldn’t hide his smile as he followed Ueda out the studio into the back corridors. “Here.” Ueda handed the shades back to Ryo, “You have some very stylish shades here…” Ueda turned his gaze to Ryo’s dark eyes, so mesmerizing and voluptuous to Ueda. “I knew you had good taste.” He was still looking at Ryo sensually, hoping Ryo would feel the electricity.

Ryo beamed, his eyes curled into cute little half moons with sparkles at the corners. “Thanks, these are Pi’s, I was just worrying about how to get them back…”

“Pi?...”

“Yah, Yamapi, I just thought it was a tee bit too long, so…Pi.”

Ueda’s face darkened as a pool of anger built inside his stomach. “What do you two have in common?” The way Ryo smiled and used Yamapi’s nickname gave Ueda a sense that something was going on between the two behind his back. His mind flashed back to the scene of Jin and Yamapi in the café during lunch. If Jin and Ryo were in trouble due to Yamapi, it would be a much more difficult problem for Ueda.

“Eh?” Ryo was surprised at the sudden impoliteness. “He lent these to me, that’s all…” “Anyway, I have to get back in, thanks for stopping by!” Ryo waved and quickly pushed the large doors back inside. Somehow Ryo felt that Ueda was a man somewhat ominous and inexplicable.

Ueda wanted to grab Ryo’s wrist to stop him from leaving but controlled his urge. “Bye!” Ueda instantly resumed his smile and waved at Ryo. “Take care Ryo-chan!”
