Summary: Following the Purge, Ben still hopes he'll see Emily again; Esau knows he won't.
Ben had wondered so many times over the years what he’d seen. It couldn’t have been Emily, or could it? He’d hoped the other side of the island was somewhere he could be happy with Emily. And a part of him had hoped that now he was here, he’d see her. It hasn’t happened yet, but he hasn’t given up hope.
Silly Benjamin, Esau thinks as he watches. Of course he’s not going to see his mother again. Esau’s done with taking that form. It’s served its purpose; Ben’s where Esau wants him to be. But Ben and Esau will meet again; Esau still has plans for him.
