As Richard walked the streets of Tenerife in 2007, he found it unrecognisable as the place where he had lived with Isabella before arriving on the island.
He’d never been back before now, firstly because he didn’t want to be recognised, but he still had felt unable to face it even after everyone who knew about his crime had long since died. He hadn’t wanted to remember the paths he’d walked with Isabella, dreaming of the New World and the life they were going to have.
Miles approached him, put his arm around him, and Richard turned to him and smiled. He had his new world after all.
