Summary: Written for lost_in_108 prompt #75: sink. Kate is clearing away the remains of taco night when she realises she cannot carry on with her marriage.
As Kate stood in front of the sink, clearing away the remains of her and Kevin’s taco night, for a moment she almost convinced herself that Edward Mars was wrong, that she could be happy in the life she was leading now.
She was Monica Callis now, Kevin’s wife. The Kate Austen who’d spent half her life running was dead. This was her life now.
But then she heard another voice in her head; that of Tom Brennan. “You always want to run away, Katie.”
As long ago as that, he’d said the same thing as Mars. And Kate realised they were both right about her after all.
