Hey again. New layout. New icons. Same ol' me.

I don't think half a year without posting here is a record for me, but to be honest, I'm not setting to make or break any. Not that that matters, but whatever.

The thing that has taken over my life currently is Star Trek. And ZQ. And pictures of ZQ. Walking, with or without Noah. And delicious lens flare. But getting back on the subject of Star Trek (which I sometimes, and rather unconsciously, call "Star Track", a habit which I blame on my Southern-ness), it's kinda amazing/ridiculous how it took me twenty plus years to get this excited and hyped up about the franchise. Now, I can tell you I've been a fan of ST for years, and this is true. One does not have a crush on Riker at the age of six in a vacuum. But though I can tell you about having vague memories about TNG and DS9 and even VOY, and tell you which movies I've watched, and even admit to you that I liked Nemesis despite the whole Data thing (sob), I feel very much like a new fan. But perhaps it would be more accurate to say that I've never been involved with Star Trek fandom, and this too is true.

"to be sure."

I feel strangely energized by this fandom, in a way that, unfortunately, ReBoot fandom wasn't able to achieve. Not that I don't love ReBoot or its fandom or the people that are involved in it, but let's face it: ReBoot is not nearly as expansive or pervasive as Star Trek and its myriad varieties. And yeah, once STXI came out, I more or less dropped my activities in ReBoot fandom; I imagine the friends I have there think I'm a colossal flake who should at least have the courtesy to finish up her damn fanfics instead of theorizing on new ones for a different fandom.

On a slightly different tack, I'm rather happy that STXI did turn out as awesome as it did. It spawned the GQMF-fest that is ontd_startrek, and ten million really great fanfics, and gave me a couple of shiny new ships (Spock/Uhura and, to a lesser extent, Kirk/Bones), and propelled my interest in Mr. Quinto to new heights. Basically, a fucking cornucopia of win.

The only thing that bums me out is the very very small section of Kirk/Spock shippers who drink from the Uhura haterade. Uhura is made of fierceness and linguistic badassitude, and if you desperately need to get Kirk and Spock together, just do us all a favor and don't write her at all if you hate her. And speaking of K/S: writers, if you feel the need to tell us that Spock and Uhura are still hunky dory after their relationship has dissolved, could you pretty please use another word BESIDES "amicable"? I swear to God I see that damn word everywhere. I mean, I'm glad that so many writers want to show that Spock and Uhura are still BFFs and all, but... really. Some other word, please.

...Okay, that's all for now.
