Wabbit Season, Duck Season, Pilot Season

So, last year, GE-NBC-Universal-Kabletown-Sheindhardt Wigs had four supernatural shows and two slots available for them.

On NBC itself, they had Grimm, about a cop who discovers the world is full of monsters and he's from a long line of monster hunters.  vs. 17th Precinct, a show about a police department set in a world that runs on magic, not science.

Meanwhile on NBC owned Syfy Channel, they had Alphas, a show about a quirky group of people with superpowers who fight crime, vs. 3 Inches, a show about an even quirkier group of people with superpowers who fight crime. (About that title, the main character has the ability to telekinetically move things, but only three inches at a time).

NBC picked up Grimm and Alphas, and passed on 17th Precinct and 3 Inches.

Last week, the pilot (a rough cut of it anyway) of 17th Precinct leaked online, and SYFY channel fairly randomly aired the pilot of 3 Inches.  I watched both shows.  My conclusion was that 17th Precinct suffered from pilotitis, but had a way more interesting cast and way more potential than Grimm, which I generally find quite bland, outside of Werewolf guy.  On the other hand, 3 Inches was fascinatingly terrible, really...I'd have to call it an amazing disaster, and Alphas far better.  So one good call, one bad call IMO.

But you don't have to take my word for it!  /Levar Burton
