6. Man Man -- Poor Jackie
Chanelling Tom Waits, much? Hell yeah. Man Man's finest moments are the ones where they're using their incredible talents to make SERIOUS music, and this is definitely that. I so wish there were a music video available for this song, because it's epic. It was less than a WEEK after they performed a mile away from my apartment that I finally realized just how hot this band could kick it.
7. Fleet Foxes -- Your Protector
My Morning Jacket + Grizzly Bear = this, and goddamn it's good. The entire album isn't beautiful as I think many consider it, but this I would definitely say qualifies as a song that makes me understand why people hold Fleet Foxes in such high regard.

A cruelly underrated song in the year-end lists, this track has got a wonderful bit of funk that so much of Cave's music lacks. This is a sonically dense song that, shockingly, shows off there's more than just Nick Cave involved. I can only hope they continue in this direction.

I love unique jazz. It's so often just a musician's or composer's genre; it's rich in subtlety, yes, but really only to people who listen to it ALL the time or people who're fluent in the language they're speaking in. This is an album one can just kick back with and enjoy.
10. Burning Star Core -- Hopelessly Devoted
C. Spencer Yeh is one of the only artists out there who I think is DEFINING noise in this generation. He's not changing the way we listen to it, but I think he's doing a damn amazing job at summing up the zeitgeist. This song is noise for the armchair, so relaaaaax.
