The packages for tenebrouskate, a_lad_inane, and revme have been taped securely to buzzard butts, and they are on their way to the proper destinations.
I'm not sending them because I feel that I owe you something for your superb mix CDs. Actually, I like sharing the audible bounty with fellow geeks. :D
BTW, I figure you might be someone good to ask what with your username and all; the Gary Numan era I'm the most fond of is the Tubeway Army stuff, but I like basically all of it. The new stuff is pretty cool too; the only stuff I'm not quite as into is the sorta Middle Period stuff (the stuff on Disconnection if you've seen that compilation); anyway, last time I was at Everyday Music, I saw copies of "I, Assassin" and "Telekon" -- I'll probably end up buying them anyway, but, like, how Essential are those records? Are they The Awesome, or just good? (I would kinda assume at least Telekon is the former, what with... yeah.)
I actually prefer I, Assassin over Telekon, oddly enough. Telekon is in the style of The Pleasure Principle. It doesn't rock like Replicas at all. It's like a toned-down-with-extra-brooding-over-oneself The Pleasure Principle. I, Assassin is more funky with the fretless bass and saxophones. It also sounds a bit warmer. I don't own Dance, so I don't know how much it resembles I, Assassin. You can't go wrong with either one, though. I'd say I, Assassin is more essential than Telekon, but it's more in that "really nice to have" category.

Numan's "Janet Jackson" phase is a scary one indeed. :D
Heh, cool, thanks! One of my favorite things on the Tubeway Army records (especially ReplicasPleasure Principle (even though it's still Paul Gardinier, which I thought was a little odd). So, that's really making me wanna check out I, Assassin. I'll probably get to Everday Music pretty soon, then, and see if they still have them. And, if not, just order them online. Or maybe just do that anyway. But still! I'll probably get both at the same time, but at least I'll know which one to prefer, heh.
I don't really know much of anything about Dance, I don't think I've ever seen that one in a store. (Although I've only seen very few of the Beggars Banquet stuff in stores; whenever I do, with the aforementioned exceptins, I end up buying it. And I've only got the two Tubeway Army discs, Pleasure Principle and The Plan. Which is basically a Tubeway Army release, heh. And then a bunch of the later stuff, too
( ... )
Jo the Waiter is awesome. Now you're making me run out to get the Tubeway Army debut.
There's plenty of funky bass on I, Assassin. I believe Mick Karn did the fretless bass for Dance and in a couple of bonus tracks on I, Assassin. Pino Palladino played the fretless bass on the rest of the tracks.
Now that I am a Nash the Slash fan, I must seek Dance.
I just saw the track listing for Disconnection. To quote the song lyrics to "Strange Charm": "You won't like it/You won't like it"
Yeah -- I really dug the debut record. Only downside is the bonus tracks are all from a Early Bootleg, which has realy utterly lousy sound quality. But I can see why they put it on, since apparently it was one of those kinds of boots where hardcore fans would spend like, 50 bucks on it. So, they just put it out with the debut to make it readily available so both they could maybe actually make money on their own music and also to get it so fans wouldn't have to drop 50 bucks on something not-very-good anymore. So, you might want to just get "The Plan" at the same time (Which is basically the demo that they recorded to get signed. It's sorta like the debut record, minus much of the synths. It's not really essential, but it's got some really cool stuff, and the pre-album 45s compiled on, like the studio version of "Bombers
( ... )
But yeah -- Disconnection has two things going for it: a) It's pretty cheap for being 3 discs and b) The last disc is a live show from 1986, which actually isn't too bad. Although it's a little redundant if you've got the "Gary Numan" DVD, since I think that's from 1985, and the sets aren't _too_ different. (And the DVD also has the weird sort of, like, Billy Idol look on Numan. He comes out in a leather jacket with "NU MAN" on the back in rhinestones.)
Some Numan is better than no Numan. I'm afraid a_lad_inane and fengriffen would have sent me the entire '84-'92 Numan catalog by then. :D I was just teasing, but yeah, it's not that bad.
A followup, because I know you were on the Edge Of Your Seat with this saga:
Today, since I couldn't find Penn & Teller's Bullshit Season 2 in stores, I ordered it from Barnes & Noble, and also got I, Assassin, Telekon and Dance (this one because it had "Stormtrooper In Drag" on it, and a long, long time ago I had an mp3 that was Jo The Waiter segued into SID (or maybe the other way around), and I really liked that one. I don't know what it was from, especially since I don't have the Mp3 anymore, heh, but I remembered really, really digging it, so... yeah).
I also got the new Batman: The Animated Series set, but that has nothing to do with Numan. Unless, I suppose, he likes Batman. Which I wouldn't be surprised because Batman's awesome.

I spent many a weekday afternoon watching it. It's a large step up compared to some of the Cartoon Network rehashed stuff. I didn't mind when the newer Batman series was half Superman and half Batman episodes. Batman rocks Superman's socks...er...tights.
Telekon's pretty good - maybe I came a bit too hard on it in my last review. :D But yeah, I listen to I, Assassin more often.
