Friday, a reading, and discussions with a mad artist

Feb 23, 2006 00:11

So I went to a reading at this very cool bookstore(I write this with a completely straight and relaxed face). It was my first reading in the ol' town, and I thought it was interesting. The 3 participants wanted to talk about 3 different things, but more on that later. So there was a reading from a scifi author, ktemptest, apart from being very pretty, she's also a really good writer. After her reading, she was talking about race and scifi, a completely valid subject, on which I can talk. However, you were one of, what, 5 black people, there was 2 other ethnic people there, who wants to discuss race in politics? The main attraction spoke up, http://douglain.livejournal.com/, so this guy reads an awesome story(I got the book afterward) and he wants to talk about Avante Garde and politics.Fair enough, unfortunately, the avante garde artist doesn't seem to agree. She has several opinions, many of which I disagree with. During all of this, my friend, jlabeatnik aka Big Daddy, shows up. And we ended leaving right after the reading had been bought to an end. Before I forget, however,I want to give an honorable mention to some guest stars in the reading. The girl who was sitting across from us, the artist, was loads of good clean family fun. Also someone came up with eye contact as a way to connect with people, but I wonder, I ask blackendstryfish, if I saw you on the subway, and I was making eye contact with you, would you think I was staring and just plain wierd? Or would you ask me to go to the movies?
There was another girl in the back, but she's so unimportant that I've forgotten what she did, so much for connecting. So we left, saw the trailer for Superman, which did not thrill jlabeatnik I tell ya. And I went home. I bought COnstantine on the way, Keanu Reeves saving the universe. That's an entry all on its own. Another time, perhaps?
