New York Adventure: Day 1

Jun 17, 2010 18:12

Oh what a day it has been. Got up at 3am for the big trip to New York. Already started off a tad late, but hey…at least I got to the airport in plenty of time, thanks to the kindness of my roommates. For an early Thursday morning, the terminal was already bustling with activity. I had to laugh though, this one couple purchased a snow globe in the gift shop at “Made in Washington” and tried to send it though with their carry-on. The TSA agent was professional and gave them an option: check it or toss it. They said they didn’t have time to check it, so they literally threw their money away.

We did leave SeaTac a bit late, and the Captain said we would probably run late getting into O’Hare…the words I did not want to hear. But we got lucky and got a tailwind that he was not expecting and we got there plenty early. Yay! What was even more awesome, is that they moved both gates, for my arrival and departure. They were literally a stone’s throw away. Score!

What really amused me, was seeing the vast number of people in the neighborhoods around the airport that had those above ground pools in their backyard. I have never seen so many! I also had some fond flashbacks of the days of yore, seeing high school football stadiums for the Spartans and the Warriors. Oh how I miss those days. My friend Paul, who I worked with at KLEW, now at Q13, hooked up again at “The Book of Zombie” which he co-produced, and wants to hook up and catch up on The flight over the Great Lakes was simply breathtaking. So blue and so calm. You could almost not tell the difference which way was up, there was so much blue!! LOL

As I type this part, we are currently a half-hour outside of LaGuardia. A little bumpy, but overall, the flights were not all that bad. The Netbook did its job of keeping me entertained, and I learned I best keep the screen’s brightness to prolong the battery life. I played a few games and bopped my heads to some tunes I loaded into iTunes prior to my flight. Yes, It consisted of Armin Van Buuren and soundtracks to Doctor Who and Torchwood. LOL

The only thing that has irked me somewhat is Foursquare. I am not sure if it is the application or not, but when I tried to check into both SeaTac and O’Hare, the app kept locking up the entire phone, so I had to pull the battery and wait five minutes for the phone to boot up again.

Going to sign off for now, we are getting closer to that time to “turn off electronic devices.” Will continue update later.

The flight into New York was awesome. Got to see the skyline of the city, which I really did not get to see the last time I was through here two years ago. Had a great and sociable driver by the name of Kermit give both me and Diane a ride from the airport to the Conference Center in a snazzy SUV. It was nice and comfy. The drive up here was equally awesome. We got to see a staple of the Law and Order TV franchise: Riker’s! We also drove by the Bronx Zoo on the way up here.

Pulling into the facility, we saw a baby doe, just munching on some grass. When we all looked at her, she wagged her tail. It was so cute! (sorry, forgot to snap a pic). The walk up to where my room will be, we saw and heard a bunch of chipmunks playing.

This is going to be a good couple of days. There is some coffee in the room that I brewed, since I have already been up a good 12 hours already. Dinner is going to be served soon, and we are already going to be jumping full-board into training.

Bring it on.
