Since my powerbook died back in September, I´ve neglected updating my livejournal. It's something I like doing as it keeps a record of events in my life that I can look back on, and also keeps my friends current on what is going on.
So I think the last time I updated this page was right before I left for my honeymoon. That was an amazing time. I've grown more fond of Los Angeles after each visit. Palli got to meet my mother and they got along sooo well. That makes me very happy. Our time was spent going to Disneyland, walking and playing at the beaches, being on the set for a filming of Back To You at Fox Studios, shopping, gambling in Las Vegas, visiting the Hoover Dam, and everything in between. The weather was perfect and though there were fires burning down the areas all around us, the time couldn't have passed in a better way. I also got to hang out a bit with my good friends Davi and Scott, who recently moved to LA.
Well, coming back to Reykjavik after that was a bit dull. As the winter progressed and we had less hours of sun each day, the weather got worse and made me want to stay in quite a bit. In all honesty, I rarely left the house other than work and a few special occasions. That was ok, though, seeing as I was very comfortable in our nice apartment downtown. Haha, but good things don't always last. The owner of the apartment informed me that she was pregnant and wanted to move back into that place around Christmas time. That caused quite a bit of stress on our part.. we had only lived there 6 months and were comfortable, despite the crazy neighbour who constantly yelled one floor under us. The hunt had to begin for a new place to live. Luckily enough, Palli's company were also looking for a couple to take over one of their properties... a beautiful 2 floor house just outside of downtown with a huge yard, 3 bedrooms, and in a beautiful calm neighbourhood. That is where we moved on December 1st.
Living here is fantastic. We have so much space to roam around and do our work. We are absolutely peaceful at all times. We have extra space for friends to stay over. Other than a high price and a bit of a walk to downtown in the winter, it is perfect and we're very happy here.
So Christmas time was very memorable. I still find the charm of this city magical around the holidays. Lights were hung everywhere, snow covered the ground, christmas songs were playing all around, and people seemed to be in high spirits. We set up our Christmas tree and the house filled with the smell of the pine and hot cocoa. The actual Christmas days (we celebrate Christmas, the day after Christmas, and also one more day after that) were spent with Palli's family. His mom and sister had us and the rest of the family over the first two nights where we all ate, talked, and shared presents. They were so generous and we did end up with quite a bit of presents. What touched me the most was part of the gifts that his mother and grandmother gave me. They each took the time to knit me something.. his grandma knitted me a really nice hat, and his mom knitted me warm wool gloves with the letter M on them. I love personal things like this and it made me feel so welcome into their family at this time. His father also had us over for dinner with the family on the third night, where we ate even more, played games, and enjoyed the company. It really was a happy few days.
Soon after, we left to Copenhagen with our friend Ingi to spend the New Year! It was my first time there, and I have very good impressions about the city! It's a very nice sized city with a wonderful combination of modern urban areas and very old and royal areas. It has a great energy that you can see walking downtown. As it was New Year, we did spend much of our time going to bars and having some drinks and partying. We spent a day at Tivoli (one of the oldest amusement parks in the world), too, and had so much fun there. It's a city I would love to visit again.. maybe in the summer.
Upon coming back home to Reykjavík, the first thing we did was add a new member to our family. We adopted a cat the day after we came home. His name is Mjási (Meowsy) and is a sweet cat. He is very talkative, loves affection, and is very entertaining.
Well after the excitement of Christmas and New Year.. 2008 started off in a stressful way. I came back to find out that I had to share my hours at my job with a new manager. This wasn't such a bad thing, as she does a very good job and I like her very much... the problem was that I had no other steady job and with high rent, I was now in a position where I was worrying about my financial situation. I spent 2 months taking as many hours as I can between Naked Ape, Barinn, and DJing. I survived, but being uncertain about my income is not a good feeling when we have bills to pay. However, that period seems to be over now.
This week, I had a meeting for a new job! Looks like I am the new online marketer for Smekkleysa (Bad Taste Record Label here in Iceland.. Björk, Sigur Rós, Múm, Sugarcubes, etc..) and grapewire.net, a digital music/book/video/etc.. sales provider. I have so many projects I am hoping to accomplish with this job.. I won´t go into detail of that now, but it is quite the amazing position that I know I will have a fun time with.
As for the future.. I´m looking forward to a trip we are taking to Morocco at the end of April! It will be my first time in Africa and after a cold winter, I´m very anxious for some heat and sun. I am also hoping to visit New York again at some point this year.. possibly in the fall.
Life is going very well for me at the moment, and I anticipate things only getting better and more exciting!
Hope everyone else is doing well!
