Dazzle Ships

I've just been reading the liner notes for the reissue of Dazzle Ships, and found out that Peter Saville came up with the name so he could base the artwork on this lovely painting by Edward Wadsworth.

I went to the Camouflage exhibition at the Imperial War Museum with my dad last year and was really taken aback by the dazzle ships, a precursor to Barbera Riley and Victor Vasarely's op art. I thought it would make a great source for graphic work, little did I know Saville had got there first!

I discovered the website for that exhibition yesterday and was cursing myself for not knowing about it when it was on. I'm not normally into war stuff, but it would've been interesting to see.
