Every day at work should be like today

Jul 05, 2008 12:08

I've been here since 6:45.  Before I went to lunch, I took 4 tech support chats, the longest of which lasted 12 minutes.  Actually had time to do followup on all my open cases, and plenty of the surfing of teh intarwebz to boot.

Since it's been a while since my last post, a few updates:

Final annual training of my enlistment is now over.  Most of the time was spent at Will Rogers Air Base, with a three day stint at senic Camp Gruber, OK.  I learned a valuable lesson while I was there.  If a female Master Sergeant wants to shoot a  slap flare by holding it in her hand, do not stand behind her.  She failed to take into account that pesky "equal and opposite reaction" thing, and the launcher tube shot backwards out of her hand, crossing the thirty feet between us in less than a second and striking me squarely on the shin.  The bleeding stopped after a couple of days, and there's no pain now, but I do have a lovely knot on the bone of my shin that will be there for a very long time.  Ah well.  Only 6 drills to go.  I've decided that my self imposed obligation to the military has run its course, so as of January 25th, I will be getting out.  Not going to re-enlist this time, as all the things I left the Army to get away from are here in spades in the Air Force.

On the personal life side, I've been running around seeing plays and movies with
rosencrantz99 (plays) and my roommate, Shrek (movies).  Hancock is fun if you want a mindless film about a drunken, surly superhero with a fondness for crass humor.  I Am My Own Wife was a phenomenal one man show performed by my friend David, who is also in the play I'm going to see tonight, called The Shape of Things.  I was asked to audition for it, but my vacation to Florida at the end of this month falls squarely in the middle of the show's run, so I had to decline.  That was a bit annoying, as it was the first drama that I had a chance to audition for.  I like the comedies I've done, but I wanted to try something different.

Work is still paying me quite a bit of money in relation to the actual amount of work I do, so no real complaints there, especially on days like today.  My birthday was as good as can be expected, since I didn't plan correctly and had to actually work that day, but the evening before was a lot of fun.  Went to Johnny Carrino's with Shrek,
rosencrantz99,
ilmarinensforge and
rainmaiden.  Steak and pretty women.  Good combo.  Fun was had by all.

That's it for me.  Life is, stuff goes.
