This & that

Yesterday, Andy & I went and bought, & Andy installed new programmable thermostats for our house.  I am quite excited.  No more getting out of bed when the alarm goes off the 1st time to turn the heat up so when I get up a snooze or 2 later I won't be freezing.  No more having to come downstairs after heading up to bed to make sure that I turned the heat down.  No more having to go back upstairs in the morning before I go to work to make sure I turned the heat back down for the day.  Yeah, we have 2 thermostats... 1 upstairs, 1 downstairs, b/c the house used to be used as an upstairs apartment & the 1st floor was for church activities, Sunday school, whatever???  I'm actually quite happy about that, b/c there's usually no need during the day for us to have the upstairs heated, even when we're home.  We're mostly downstairs in the living room.  I do wish we had a way to block the upstairs off from the downstairs - an enclosed staircase w/ a door, which they must have had prior to renovating the house to be the actual parsonage.  That would keep the downstairs warmer - because we all know that heat rises.  Anyway, I am glad to be doing our small part to lower our energy consumption & costs... now we just need to do a little weather stripping around our door.  Don't know how our insulation is, but it seems like it must be pretty good b/c the house does get warm & stay warm pretty easily.

Oh, and we rearranged the living room yesterday too.  I was trying to figure out what to do with the corner where the couch & loveseat met, b/c it was a big corner, blocked off by the furniture.  We had our very ugly end table (left here before we got here... and we might as well use it til we can find & purchase end tables we like) in that corner, but still there was a lot of space around it & it was just pretty much unusable.  And Andy, who goes through periodic spurts of wanting to switch things up, was also trying to figure out a way to reconfigure our space.  So, we moved everything around - put the TV on a different wall & moved everything else around.  What we didn't realize when we picked out and purchased our furniture is how big it actually is.  When we got the living room in the house, we were kind of amazed at how much room it takes.  We have a big combined living room/dining room, but the way that it's laid out can make it difficult to put everything out... plus the whole baseboard heaters... we hate to put too much stuff near them, blocking the path of the warmed air.  Alas, we have to, all over the house, because otherwise we'd have no place to put our furniture!

Anyhoo, that's the news from this part of the world.  Church & life are busily going along, the weather has turned distinctly fall-ish, & I think I'm coming down with a cold.  I'm off to write my sermon for tomorrow, and then we'll be watching the PSU-OSU game as a house divided tonight at 8 PM.  Should be a good game, esp. if my side wins!  =)
