That felt good!

I just ranted over on fanficrants about writers who get some incredibly stupid things wrong, like Jack being in the army. Or, since it was a multi-fandom rant, Gibbs being in the army. I included one thing that isn't quite as stupid simply because it's not quite common knowledge, nor has it been mentioned in canon, but folks, there ain't no such a thang as a ( Read more... )

I think Gibbs has said that a few times, hasn't he? And even if he hadn't, every Marine and former Marine on TV has managed to say it at least once.

I was reading a story just yesterday in which Jack was referred to as a soldier. Ack! He is an airman, not a soldier. My ex was in the regular Army and then in the Air National Guard, so I learned the difference. But I think most people who haven't been exposed to the military not only don't know the difference, but don't even know there is a difference. I had to stop a friend from using the term "jarhead" to describe Jack in a story once. She honestly thought it was a general term for military people, not one that was used exclusively for marines.

Didn't he and Makepeace actually call each other Jarhead and Flyboy to make fun of each other?
