My dad got his surgery today. The doctor said there was more blockage then he had anticipated and my dad was in the operating room for almost two hours instead of the standard half hour. I was hectic as fuck, pacing and worrying.. everyone was. When we were finally able to see him he was groggy and in pain. My father has the clearest blue eyes you can imagine and though he tried to joke around and hide it I could see he was in huge amounts of pain. And because of the severity they couldn't give him much to soothe it. He's in 24 hour survelliance, intensive care. I've never been so scared in my life. We left the hospital at 4PM and I just lost it. He looked so scared. I didn't want to leave but the nurses told me I had to let him rest and he had to be left alone. We went back at 6PM and he looked much better though still in pain. I was silent for the most part. Seeing all those tubes and IVs in him really made my heart ache for him. He called my name and I sat by his bed and he grabbed my hand.
"It's okay, baby girl. I'll be fine."
"Your in pain."
"Yes, but it will pass. Be strong for me?"
"Always Poppa."
"Your mother and sister are freaking out I need
you to be tough until I come home. Everything will
be fine, you'll see. I'm just tired. In two weeks
everything will be back to normal."
"I'll take care of mom and Amy. Promise."
"Such a good girl.."
"And I'll take care of you when you come home."
"I don't doubt it."
My dad is such a gentle guy. He's been through so much shit in his life and he doesn't deserve it. But I know he's strong. I dunno if he'll be coming home tommorow or not. I hope so. When we had to leave at 8PM he looked like he wanted to cry. He looked so scared. I wish the nurses would just let me sit by his bed all night. I'd be super quiet and I know Dad would be able to sleep knowing someone from home was watching over him. I'm just so scared that I'll get a call and it will be bad news. My father is my hero. I get my patience, laid back nature, and gentleness from him. While from my mom I get my stubborness, don't take no shit toughness, and strength from her. I just hope he can come home tommorow. And that the pain will be less. If I could I would take every bit of pain from him..
