With justice and a kind heart

I finally watched Hemingway Narnia Pan's Labyrinth all the way through. It's brilliant. Of course I would think that; but I believe it's brilliant by anyone's standards, not only those of a monster kid who thinks of the world in terms of myths, legends, and folktales. I love the way the reality-side horrors of war and the fantasy-side perils all compliment each other instead of devaluing each other's power.

It's also gut-wrenching and it's 2+ hours of watching Captain Vidal kill the people you like, horribly and at great length. I think I'm going to go watch Nosferatu until I remember what it's like to laugh again.

Ivana Baquero is one hell of an actor. Doug Jones is the most genteel and lovely creature.

One tiny thing that helps to take the edge off: the stick insects get screen credits. "CHEECH. CHONG. MAY THEY REST IN PEACE."

actors: ivana baquero, movies: pan's labyrinth, actors: doug jones, doug jones, guillermo del toro, pan's labyrinth, life ruiner
