The switch from the funny Wilson/Cuddy/House subplot to the more serious patient arc was a little bit jarring, but other than that, I think I enjoyed this one. It was really intense and… quiet, you know? Which was a nice change from the cheap stunts and annoyingly persistent, out-of-nowhere relationship arcs going on recently.
I like the fact that House encouraging dangerous, rash decisions from his team finally had some consequences. Foreman wouldn’t have been my first choice for a character-study episode, but I quite liked seeing how everyone responded to him after he caused the death of his patient. Because he’s the only character with a ‘neutral’ non-shippy relationship with everyone, I think that worked best. The conversation with Wilson, about how to deliver the news? Perfect. Cameron fixing his hand and offering advice? Also perfect. They were tense and still unable to understand one another. Exactly how I see their relationship now. And Chase trying to do the guy thing and then offering advice about God? Yes, perfect. I love the Chase/Foreman dynamic. I hope we get more of it in the coming episodes.
Chase continues to be absolutely adorable. I like how he’s choosing to pursue Cameron - it’s not creepy or stalkerish, it’s just sweet. I think I need to write Chase/Cameron. I also like how he keeps attempting to reach out to Foreman. It's like he's given up trying to seek House's approval and he's trying to create (rebuild?) relationships with both of his collegues. It's nice.
House… I just… I find myself either not liking him, or completely apathetic to him. I get that he needed to know what was wrong with her, even after knowing she was going to die, that it's in his nature, but it was so... callous. That judgement aside, I’m not entirely sure how I felt about that final scene with him and Foreman. He acknowledged that he does think they’re the same, but it was quite… sad, really. Foreman obviously didn't like hearing it either. I’d like to hope that this really stays with Foreman, and that his coming resignation doesn’t disappear with other plots into the void of never-being-mentioned again. It could be a great turning point for him. Unfortunately I said the same thing about Euphoria, and look how that turned out.
I love Foreman’s mother. And I think I teared up at the end when he thought he was being forgiven, and then she didn’t even remember who he was. So sad.
Okay, as for the lighter stuff?
Ohmygod Wilson and Cuddy. Fuck everybody else, it's all about Wilson and Cuddy. I need to write them. (
everybody__lies, you are going to spaz out. And then decide you need this way more than Lost). Cuddy is adorably light and cheerful when she's around Wilson. That date? KILLED ME. I was so right, they are so going there. (and she was HOT in that dress. And he was so adorably embarassed about the exhibit).
Wilson: *looking at the S&M art* Is that a... bicycle pump?
Obviously House looking into things with Bonnie showed that Wilson's intentions aren't entirely pure or nice, but hey, it's one of the few relationships on this show I've actually really really wanted and assumed was going to happen at some point, and it would be very interesting to see if Wilson could develop actual feelings for someone. I think Cuddy likes him. And I think House was so determined to look into it because he doesn't like the idea that his two friends would have a relationship without him. I'm still not entirely convinced he's actually interested in Cuddy and she's actually interested in him. It's still more a bizarre kind of powerplay. (by the way, I'm completely ignoring those latest Kristen spoilers. Number one, David Shore is full of shit half the time, and Kristen distorts everything she hears anyway. Number two, I chose to remain optimistic because fandom makes overblown drama out of everything. And number three, I like House and Cameron in ways other than a ship. I like their friendship. And I'd be cut up about it, but I'd be able to live with it if we just got more of that). You know what I do find weird though? That House and Cameron haven't had a single scene since the kiss. I mean, that's weird. It's like they don't know what to do with them, so they're just ignoring it.
I like that we finally got to meet one of Wilson’s ex-wives, and she was exactly the type of person I expected her to be. Needy and nice and meek, and secretly resentful of House. And awesome that we got a sniping scene between her and House, blaming him for contributing to the break up of their marriage. House is so one of the reasons Wilson can’t sustain a functioning relationship. Really, it just tied into everything that fanfic has already established for me in my mind, but it was cool to see it playoff onscreen.
I can't remember half of the dialogue, but I thought this was hilarious:
House: I asked Cuddy to a play.
Wilson: *giggles*
House's scenes with Wilson are his only redeeming moments, for me.
Anyway, I’m really interested to see where this thing with Foreman goes. I wish the other characters would get a chance to inspire these kinds of emotional, revealing reactions from the other characters, but I did like the insight into Foreman‘s background. It made me like him more.
Does anyone know what the song was at the end? I must download it, methinks.
