Gamelan Pacifica Started rehearsals last night and Jarrad gave us pre-release copies of the CD of Lou Harrison's music we've been working on for year and a half. It sounds really good! (IMNSHO)
It's called "Lou Harrison Scenes from Cavafy" and it's on
New World Records. If you go to the the NWR site in the above link they have a very complete description of it in their "new releases" section including some previews of the music and the the full liner notes (which are voluminous and very informative). It's clear that this was as much a labor of love for the recording label as it was for us and they have done a beautiful job on it. I'm proud and humbled to have had a part in bringing this music to the world.
We are doing an album release concert at Cornish on Saturday, Dec. 4th. We'll be doing some cuts from the CD as well as other Lou Harrison stuff. For faithful followers of GamPac here is our schedule for 2010/2011 as far as we know it currently:
