Well, it has been a long but positive day. We left the house at 5:10 this morning and left the hospital about 2:00 PM. My mom once again did very well in the surgery and came through recovery quickly. She was complaining about being cold when we got her back from recovery into her room. This is significant in that it means that the pain in her hip isn't the only thing in her consciousness. (The morphine helps too)
I'm up here at the ancestral home in beautiful Sequim where my dad is muddling through his end-of-night puttering. He's not totally clear about the story arc but he's beginning to get the idea. I'm staying here tonight to keep some continuity in his reality as he adapts to the current circumstance. He misses my mom terribly when they're out of sight of one another for more than about 3 hours and he still isn't sure what's happening on the grand scale.
Caregivers will be in tomorrow with whom he is familiar and we'll proceed from here. Barring nosocomial infection or other unexpected development on the maternal front (avert!) I'm more concerned about my dad than my mom at this point.
Many thanks gain to all of you who gave a thought, prayer, or fired off some ju-ju. I am positive it makes a difference and I appreciate it greatly.
