EMC World 2007 in Orlando

Took a red-eye to Orlando last night with one of my coworkers. We touched down at 7:30am local time here and taxied to our hotels. I was able to check in to mine (the Renaissance Orlando Resort At SeaWorld). It's pretty nice, fairly large and in the middle of a big renovation. The center atrium is partially complete, they are building what has to be the biggest Saltwater Aquarium I've ever seen (except for AT an aquarium) as the centerpiece for the atrium bar.

Immediately after checking in my coworker called saying he couldn't check in yet so he headed my way and we had coffee and breakfast. It was really good getting some food in my stomach. I was also dehydrated from the flight. Orange Juice is REALLY good here.

When they say "at SeaWorld", they aren't kidding, when you turn into the hotel, you are directly across from the parking lot and gate to SeaWorld. Fun little touches in the hotel like Shamu on the room key card, and a mini squeezable tub toy of Shamu in the bathroom which I will definitely have to bring home. The Flat panel TV in the room works well for iPod Video watching.

Brent and I relaxed in my room for a bit and then got called by another coworker who was up at 5am trying to fix a problem with an email server at work. It turns out that it's totally hosed so Brent and I took on the project of resurrecting it remotely with our laptops. We finished our pieces up around 1pm Orlando time coordinating with others using multiple speaker phone sessions on our Blackberry's.

It's 3pm here now and in about 30 minutes I'm heading over to the convention center to check-in for the conference. I'm an alumni this time (since I went last year in Boston) so I'll be getting some sort of special alumni gifts and perks. Then there is a reception with food and drinks to meet other conference attendees.. and of course what kind of conference would it be without some entertainment.. Hootie's playing. So it should be interesting at the least.

Oh yeah, it's like 85 here.. In fact it was 68 degrees at 2am this morning. And there are a million little lakes all over the place.
