[Eventually Knuckles starts again, explaining how Sonic had come, just as Knuckles had been told he would, saying and doing exactly what was expected, how Sonic had captured Robotnik and took him back to his base...just as planned.]
The base was a secret see, Robotnik wanted to be caught, to find out where it was...turns out it was underground, in the Emerald Hill Zone, I had already met Sonic and tails, it was in the base that I saw Amy, Johnny, and Porker...Porker Didn't make a very good first impression. Robotnik had taken him hostage...
[Robonik had forced Sonic to hand over the hedgehog's chaos emeralds, Robotnik had said Knuckles could keep them, he just wanted them out of Sonic's hands, and Knuckles needed them. And so they left for the island, Sonic and Tails chasing after them.]
They attacked us mid-air making us crash before we reached the temple of Chaos, not that it mattered, I know every short cut and trap on that island, I made sure Robotnik and I got to the temple first, and we took my six emeralds and Sonic's six emeralds and fused them back to together, as they should be...
[Knuckles pauses again, to see if Don would spot something wrong with the story...he was surprised to find that he was enjoying himself with this storytelling]

At the end, he blinks.]
... You mean seven emeralds. And.. you're testing me, aren't you?
[Don's picking up quickly.]

Of course that wasn't the end of it, Robotnik and Sonic were at war, and Robotnik knew where Sonic's base was now...It was my duty to make sure my actions did not lead to his down fall.
[When Knuckles had reached the base, Sonic, Johnny and Porker were trapped in the under ground base, it had been easy to dig them an escape tunnel, but then there were the armies of Badniks to take care of too..Johnny was quiet, didn't shout half as many taunts or insults as Sonic, he could almost be forgotten about, if it wasn't for the fact his metal staff took out almost as many robots as Knuckles Fists, or Sonic's quills. And Porker who was not a fighter, but had stayed behind with the other two because he was the only one who could take care of the Kintorbor computer, something that held far, far to much information to be left behind for Robotnik to have. But they had won, Robotnik fed the battle and Knuckles returned to his island.]
...Sometimes I think Proker was the bravest of he freedom fighters...he couldn't fight, he was terrified, and he'd still follow Sonic, he has got me out real trouble too. And Johnny, he would fight just as much as Sonic, take the same risks, but he didn't have any speed, strength, or flight to help him.
Don...You're scared and you're still talking [That's something even Porker couldn't do] Your brothers in that world had thirty years more fighting experience than you...and you still chose to fight with them.

[And so he does ignore it, but he remembers it.
The comments about Porker and Johnny make him smile, but the smile grows softer, sadder, as the conversation turns back to him.]
It's.. more like they chose to fight with me. I was nervous about being around Mikey at first, but he.. he was still my brother. [And the smile grows a bit sadder.] I've... heard that courage isn't the absence of fear but the mastery of it. I'm still afraid--terrified of talking about it, actually--but I know I need to do this.

Heh, I'd feel a bit weird if I met the freedom fighter and they were thirty years older than I remembered too.
...I believe you're right, I had to fight a demon once, that could make you feel fear...I was almost helpless, it was Porker who saved the emeralds that day. Not me.

[A slight laugh.] They... took it pretty well in stride, even better than I did. But I think they were just glad to see me again....
[Don smiles.] If I could meet this Porker some day... I'd like to.

Sonic's travelled though time more than once, so I guess I wouldn't be that surprised, nothing like that never happened to you and your brother before this?
He...wouldn't do well here.

... My brothers and I went to the middle ages, once? Courtesy of the same Time Scepter. But... I don't know about that other Mikey--what happened to him. I don't know where our timelines start to differ, other than the fact that I disappeared. [He looks slightly disturbed.] ... He.. probably died. I would've found a way back to my family as long as I had life left in me. At least they're all together again now.
[Don nods softly.] Yeah. ... Probably wouldn't. But it'd be nice if I could meet him someplace safe, y'know?

Lord Simultaneous's Time Scepter. You can go through time and space with it. To alternate realities. We ended up fighting a guy who wanted it in the past before. It was... odd, to say the least.
[Don blinks, tilting his head a little.] ... what's so funny?
