[Donny turns on the screen, looking very nervous.. and perhaps a bit afraid as he adjusts the communicator. When he's satisfied he straightens and glances just offscreen to where Raph is.] I.. I think I'm ready.
Come on Donny, ya can do this. [Raph says off camera, sounding a bit supportive.] Ya only have ta do this once.
[That earns a smile from Donatello, albeit weak.] I'm... not sure if I can get it in one go. B-But I'll try. [Donatello takes a short breath in and out, glancing back at the camera.] You all heard about the Ultimate Draco attacking our home. And how we were separated. For me, it began someplace familiar.
It began in the lair. Except it wasn't our lair at all--not anymore, abandoned for a long time. It had been trashed, destroyed, ransacked. It was still mostly standing.. but the heart was gone. The warehouse was the same. The Turtle Tunneler was the only thing in one piece.
[He's quiet for a moment before starting again.]
Right after I walked out of the warehouse, a helicopter had a spotlight on me. Three armored cars were also there, and heavily armed, masked men got out of them. Over a PA system, I was told to put my hands up and drop my weapons. But when I put my hands up, I saw the Foot symbol on their arms... and pulled out my bo instead of giving myself up.
[He stops, and looks at Raph, taking his presence as reassurance. A breath. Donatello looks back at his communicator. He continues.] Before they could open fire, before they got closer, three shuriken were thrown in their path.
[A weak laugh.] And then all hell broke loose. The soldiers went from tense to frantic, and the man on the PA shouted [Donatello's voice gets louder, more like the man he's speaking of]--on the roof--get a light on him--open fire, open fire!
I couldn't see the figure clearly, but what I could see... was that he was amazing. And that he was Mikey. Never once was he injured. He dodged everything. Took everyone out. Stole a rifle and took out the armored cars and the chopper with it. The Foot ignored me for him, so I just... stood there and watched, my mouth open.
[A fond smile for a moment, he shakes his head, the smile fading.] I was so happy to see him... but when he came out of the shadows... [Don swallows. He goes quiet, reaching over to touch Raph off-screen. This part is where it grows hard. He looks stressed, and the stress doesn't disappear as he continues.] ... h-he was older, scarred. Missing an arm.
[There's a long silence from Raph's side, before soft cursing is heard. He's holding back for Don's sake.]
He was tense. Staring at me like I was a ghost. I.. He told me that I disappeared over 30 years ago. That they thought I was dead. Angry, accusatory. Convinced I had abandoned my family. I told him that I didn't, that I couldn't. Those thirty years passed in an instant for me.
It wasn't safe there. We moved. He said... [A hesitation. A shift in his stance.] Said he was taking me to see Master Splinter. That Raph and Leo weren't with him, or with anyone, anymore. That those who still lived worked 18 hours days in labor camps. That Leo and Raph got in a "big fight a long time ago." Everything fell apart with me gone.[This is said almost hurriedly. It's just information, compared to what's coming. He's growing quieter.] I almost faded out once on our way there. Like how I finally left. But I stayed, and he... he brought me to see Master Splinter.
[Donatello shakes his head and brings a hand up, dropping his head into it. He closes his eyes tightly.] T-To his grave.
[After a moment, before Raph can get the strength to answer, Donatello jerks his head up, sounding a bit frantic.] T-That's enough. I can't... n-not anymore. Not today. I'm sorry.
[And he shuts the communicator off without another word.]
