I know, you've heard this before: a fantastic, life-changing book

I just read this great book. I mean, it's really fantastic. I know, you've heard that before. But it was so great, I got into the bath with it and a glass of wine, figuring I'd read a dozen pages and get out. That's what usually happens. But I didn't ( Read more... )

Not that new. He came up here and did a reading on it a year or so ago. We went to it and I'm only just getting around to reading it.

I heard him give a speech last summer at the annual conference for the Society of Children's Bookwriters & Illustrators in Los Angeles. He was mind-blowingly good. Have you read his latest short story in The New Yorker? It's about his father's death. I've never had an experience where I was both laughing & crying at the same time AND separately (not laughing so hard I was crying - just crying, then laughing, then crying some more). Sherman makes it practically impossible for any of us to whine about anything in our lives - his had such a tough start individually as well as with the prejudice against him as a Native American - yet look how far he's come.

Thanks so much for sharing this! Shipper Nation is a well-read bunch, aren't we? XD

I heard him talk when he was doing a tour for Flight. It was amazing. He's an incredibly unique individual and he tells some great stories. I hope I get a chance to hear him speak again soon.

I grabbed Reservation Blues last night. I'm enjoying the flavor, I know they have Flight at the store, and I'm working again this evening... So you know I may be forced to buy that as well and read them back to back. >_>*

Like lots of people here, I've seen him speak and he is amazing. I have Flight on my bookshelf; once William Davies King & Shirley Jackson & Primo Levi are done (what? Winter = big book list), I'll get stuck in.
