Thank you so much for explaining this - I've seen these terms around but I'm always been afraid to use them because I was never really sure of their meaning. And now it makes sense! \o/!
Sort of an aside - I love reading what you think of binaries. :)
Oh, I spent an enormous amount of my academic career researching things like post-structuralism and post-colonialism and the problem of Self/Other, Lover/Beloved. *g* I can't help myself!
I'm pretty much nodding along to most of that. I've said pretty much the same, many times but without the wolves. Although the pack hierarchy is an excellent way of show over tell :)
Yeah, I get that. Totally going off on a tangent I have and hand train dogs, the alpha is the strongest willed Akita but the beta is a force to reckon with. Definitely no pansy.
*applauds* That was so well thought out and I can not agree with you more! (I also really loved your thoughts on dom/sub, dominance vs. submission, tops and bottoms, and topping vs. bottoming(is that the right word?). Very nice to have it all laid out in a clear way. :)
i dig how you worked in what we constantly talk about with Dean and Sam and the sense of self thing. Because I wonder if everyone else in fandom sees it and now I'll see!
*nods* A lot of my meta is stuff I talk to you about first. You serve as my reality check so I can see if I'm smoking crack before I expose myself to the world. I know you won't let me show up naked for the party.

And yes, sounds very much like Dean.

I don't think all that many people argue that Dean is an Alpha. It's just the part of about beta=pansy that I wanted to make go away. *g*
