Alright, this is gonna be long...
*Last Saturday: First real college cc race in 95 degree heat at Luther College=hell, but I finished 58/98, even though the rest of my team was in the top 15. La Crosse girls won both the JV and varsity. If it hadn't been so hot it would've been a good course. I also had my first bundies experience at this meet...aka our uniforms in college are tight jersey tops and basically swimsuit bottoms. I'm pretty sure my butt was hanging out the entire race.
After getting back and eating I took the bus to the mall with my roomie, my neighbor rachel, and this girl Alisha. We bought some DVD's and I bought these glow in the dark stars for our ceiling, and then we decided to go when the mall closed at 8. Little did we know that the last bus came at 7:20 so we were stranded about 8 miles away from campus at this mall. We called everyone we knew w/ cars but either they didn't pick up their phones or they were already drunk, so after asking about 10 people for rides to campus, this quiet high school kid agreed to give us a ride since he lived close to campus. He didn't say a word the entire ride, but hey, we got a ride. It was a humorous experience.
After getting back we changed and I went out on the town for the first time with my roomie, Alisha, and my 2 neighbors. I've never partied before and didn't know how it was gonna go but I knew I did not want much to drink, if any at all. Since I had never drank though, I admit I was quite curious to see what all the hype was about. Before going out we drank some bicardi in Aisha's room where I just took a big sip, not knowing what it really was and it tasted horrible and burned, and everyone laughed and told me to use a chaser, a term I hadn't known before, but its just a pop to help the taste. I only drank a little of that since it was so bad. Then we went to my roomie's guy friends house behind campus. It was a really small party thing, and not even really a party. There were just like 4 guys or so when we got there. I sipped a beer, which was gross to me, while playing foosball with some guy obsessed with weed. The other girls I was with were really putting the beers away and played beer pong and such. I just felt awkward overall. Finally my roomie realized I was still completely sober and she told me to have a little fun and I ended up doing 3 beer bongs, with not full cans each, mind you. That was my first beer bong experience. I felt a small buzz but I was still completely sober all night, and everyone kept making fun of me because nothing had any effect on me, and they claim its my high metabolism and because I'm in crazy shape compared to them. At around 1 am Alisha and I walked 8 blocks to little caeser's pizza and got a large cheese pizza and both ended up eating an entire half of it. Then we walked back, avoided the billions of la crosse cops everywhere, and went back to the house and waited for meg and jenna to go back to the dorms. They were both drunk out of their minds and we wanted to lead them back safely, but eventually we got really sick of waiting and just left, since Jenna was passed out on the bathroom floor and Meg was just out of it. I ended up getting back around 3 am and talked to Ellen on the phone about everything for almost 2 hours. Then I finally went to bed, and woke up to my roommate just coming home around 11 am. Then I fell back asleep and ended up sleeping until 2 pm. Then I just laid around until my roommate got up around 5 and we went to eat. Then I think I watched a movie and went to bed w/o doing any homework.
Monday:
Monday was just classes until 1, and in dance apprectiation we actually danced. It was funny/I suck at it. Then practice was fine, just an 70 minute run on these trails. I can't remember most of this day actually. I do remember that it rained and with my luck we left our window open all day and about 3 of my textbooks got completley water damaged because they were by the window. If I don't have to pay for them now, I sure will when I have to return them. I was very crabby that night.
Tuesday:
Tuesday it stormed like non other here. I sat in bio and could not pay attention because I knew I had left my window open again and was afraid for my computer this time. Of course I had to go straight to practice from bio and had to sprint through terrential rain and got to the fieldhouse already soaking wet. I ran into adam as he was on his break from class and we talked for a while until I had to go to the team meeting. Turns out practice was canceled because there was storms and tornado warnings so we waited until the rain let up a bit and then finally ran back to our dorms. Everything on campus was flooded, and the water around the clock tower was up to my mid thigh...no joke. I had to walk through it. People were actually swimming in it. Even though it was pouring, everyone was outside and it looked fun, so me and 4 other cc girls decided to change into crappy clothes and go play outside in the rain. We went puddle diving and got completely muddy, it was great fun. Then I went and rinsed off and went to go eat w/ the cc team. After we ate I went back to my room in my sweats and just laid there. Then it suddenly cleared up completley and was sunny out so like 8 people called me to tell me we were going running at 8 pm since we couldn't before. I ended up having to get out of my comfortable state and go run for an hour on a full stomach. We had fun though on a night run.
Wednesday:
Had a crappy schedule of classes from 7:45-1:30. I was so tired in all of them, I don't think I said more than 2 words the entire day. Then I watched a movie until practice, which was a really hard workout of 3 X 1600, 800, and a 400. I actually ran with a good group of girls though and had really consistent times which were in the projected time zone they were supposed to be. I actually liked it which was weird because it was really hard, but I just felt good about it all and my coach was even impressed with how well my group ran. That night I went to Atheletes in action, a bible group for athletes on campus which was really fun. I love all the people, even though most of them are runners I already know. After that I just crashed and did a little homework and somehow ended up staying up until 2 watching the oc next door with my neighbors, roommate, and these 3 random guys who were really funny.
Thursday:
Gave my introduction speech for public speaking which went horribly because for some reason I just freaked out and talked really fast and made no sense. oh well, I don't really like my class anyway and most people in it are over 21 which is weird. Then I had my long bio lecture and went to practice. I ran on these trails for 55 minutes with this group of girls and managed to take my first trail tumble and cut my leg pretty bad which was kind of embarrassing. After practice I went to the luteran campus ministry with 2 cc girls because my 'big sister' (like a mentor on the cc team) lives there and invited me to the free dinner and bible study. We felt awkward staying for the bible study so we left not long after dinner and the introductions. Then I watched the OC which was good, and studied and went to bed.
Friday:
Had my HPR lab, a.k.a. a gym class. Our morning activities included the human knot, jump roping, and the name game. It was ridiculous, but funny because we were doing elementary gym things in a college class. My teachers a grad student who doesn't care about anything so she let us got a half hour early because she had some doctor appointment. Then I sat through a long hour of history w/ the man who talks endlessly without breathing. He's insane. Then I came back to the dorm and watched a couple episodes of the oc with my neighbors and slowly they began to leave. Also during this time I got this missed call and message on my cell phone from Tyler. It was soooo weird, I listened to the message and was like wow, why is he calling, since we haven't talked forever. It was a lengthly message of him apologizing for breaking up with me the way he did and how he felt bad about me being hurt and stuff. It was nice I guess but it was over a year late which I found funny. How random is that though? I just kinda laughed/was mighty confused by it and didn't call or text him back since there was like no response to it. Random.
Did I mention everyone I know left this weekend? My roomie left, as well as both my neighbors and 90% of the cc team. For cc we didn't have organized practice and had to do this hard workout on our own which was a 20 min. warm up, 15 min fast continuous run, then 15 min cool down. I did it on these random trails by the river, and Adam ended up passing me with some other cc guy on these random trails. I kept up with them just behind them for a while since I was doing my tempo pace but eventually lost them at a stop light. I seriously Adam everywhere, its so weird. Then I ended up running to the fieldhouse where we usually meet for cc so I could get water and waste time before I had to finish my cool down and adam rounded the opposite corner of the building the exact same time I did so we ended up finishing the run at the same time even though we didn't run together. Soooo coincidental its insane. We ended up just talking in the lobby for about a half hour and he mentioned that he didn't feel like going home and cooking because he had no dishes, so I offered to have him eat in the dining center because we can have guests use some of our meals on weekends and surprisingly he took me up on it. So I ran back to my dorm, showered, and then met him at the clock tower to go to the dining center, a place grad students usually aren't at, but he had done that guest thing before and he didn't care. There's a cc table in the dining center and when we got there there was an all guys one and then just 3 cc girls were at the other one, and thats where I sat down. Adam surprisingly sat at the end next to me instead of the guys table and we sat there and talked and ate for an hour and a half, a whitney dining center record for me. We just connect incredibly well for some weird reason. After we finally left he offered to take me to Target since I mentioned I had to go there this weekend anyway. I took him up on the offer and drove with him up there. We listened to some awesome music thats the exact music I love, and he said he'd make me a bunch of CD's since he has like every single CD of every single band I love. At Target we wandered around for a while and spent a bunch of time in the CD and DVD section discussing our favorites which were completley similar. Then I finally found some of the stuff I needed after like over an hour of wandering in there. Adams exactly like me though, and even though hes 24 he doesn't seem like it at all. We walked by the toys and he suddenly ran off and insisted on going through the toy aisles. It was funny. Then we finally left and he dropped me off at my hall and we called it a night since i had to go somewhere. I honestly can't tell if Adam actually likes me or if he thinks of me as more of a friend/little sister. I do like him though, just because I've never connected or talked to a guy as easily as I have been able to with him.
After hanging out with Adam most of the night, I went to this campus crusade for christ house party off campus w/ 2 cross country girls and some of their friends. It was a graffiti party where you wear a plain white t and everyone signs your shirt, like a yearbook. It was fun and a really good way to meet people. After the cru party we left to go back to campus and check out 'club ocktane', this techno dance club thing on campus that these 2 cc guys put on every once and a while. On the way we picked up this kid Jake, the one I ran with that one day/met at that dance thing and he came with us. He's nice and all and I thought I kinda liked him but I've decided he's sort of weird and the entire time he was with us, and even when we were walking to this doughnut place down the street he was on his stupid cell phone calling some drunk girl. It was like we weren't cool enough to hang out with. Needless to say I did not call him today. Then he went back to his hall and the rest of us went to this girls dorm and watched a couple boy meets world episodes. Then I went to bed around 2:30.
Saturday:
Saturday morning I went on a photo excursion/bluff hike at 7:30 am randomly with Kristen, one of the cc girls I had hung out with the night before. And yes, that means I got 4 and a half hours of sleep when I went. We started at 7:30 and took all these cool pictures of the marsh, and then hiked up an entire bluff. We took some cool pictures up there and found these awesome caves and these amazing houses on the top of the bluff. It was so much fun, even though it ended up taking us over 3 hours. Right when we got back we stuffed our faces in the dining center since we were so thirsty/hungry. Then I came back to my dorm and slept until 2 pm. I was gonna work on a bio project with this girl in my hall but she ended up having to work so I watched the movie old school by myself and just ate all afternoon. I was just antisocial actually, door shut and all. I did manage to vacuum and dust and basically completley clean our room which felt good because it was so dirty. Then while online some kid from facebook IMed me and we started talking a lot and he seemed pretty nice, so I asked if he wanted to eat dinner w/ me since I had no one else to go with. I ended up randomly meeting this kid whos just down the hall from me on the same floor and we went at ate at the dc, just the 2 of us. He was actually nice and doesn't drink or anything, but he seemed really shy. It wasn't too awkward luckily, and we had a lot in common since he plays tennis for UWL and I run cc and stuff so we just talked about those things. But yea, hes definitely quite shy. It was so random.
Then I had to get my run in I had been putting off all day so I went with a cc girl and this guy she likes who was really really nice. He used to run cc and was really good but not good enough to make the UWL team which says nothing because the team is soooo good. We ended up running under 8 minute miles in the pitch black which was fast and scary since we were running blind on the riverside trails. Thank goodness there was a guy with us, otherwise we would've never made it. It was so fast though, and it was supposed to be a recovery run. Sometimes I worry I'm overtraining. My mileage is sooooo high every week.
Then tonight I came back and showered quick and checked out my hall's dance party thing in the basement. I didn't want to go alone so I made the girl I ran with come with, even though shes a sophomroe and everyone else there was a freshman. I was there a total of 5 minutes and it was super awkward so we just left, picked up another cc girl from her dorm, and went and watched Legends of the fall in her room with some other random people.
I don't know how I'd be surviving if I didn't run cross country because I've become so close w/ a lot of the older girls just because they're more like me and don't drink a lot and stuff. All the freshmen on this campus seem to be obsessed with sex and drinking. I wouldn't do much of anything if I didn't have my teammates, as stupid as it sounds.
Anyway, that was sort of a long and pointless update but oh well. Time for bed for me. Tomorrows homework day...ish.
G'night.
