My diploma came in the mail today.

I just submitted my dissertation to the thesis advisor. Which means I'm that much closer to officially finishing my Ph.D. program. Now I just have to wait for her to get back to me with the 843 formatting violations that I need to change before I can file.

I just got a call from my sister...my grandpa passed away this morning. Not entirely unexpected, given that he's been really sick ever since grandma got sick two months ago, but still, a little more time with him would have been nice. As of noon today, my graduate school career spans three presidencies. :) Not exactly something to be proud of. But don't worry, I don't plan on letting it go on to a fourth one [shudder]. So after I posted last night I passed out on my bed, then slept for a few hours. Woke up feeling *very* refreshed, strolled into the office around 1pm, wrote up my abstract for the department secretary so she could send out the exam announcement, and generally had a pretty uneventful day. Just finished the defense draft. Sending it to committee members now. Defense is next Monday. I not sleep in past two days. I go pass out on bed now.

I just hit 180 for the page count for my thesis. Yay for me. I figure I have about 20 pages or so to go for a defense draft, then whatever more I can manage between the defense and the end of December, when I'll need to file. So I've fallen a bit behind on my schedule for finishing...the current plan now is to defend the first week of November (which is the only time all four of my committee members will be in town at the same time) and then try to file by December.
