So this morning I found out that
"Society prepares the crime; the criminal commits it" is actually a quote from the 19th century historian Henry Thomas Buckle, and not a translation of an obscure Chinese proverb as I initially assumed. (Well, I did originally see it in a fortune cookie...) I think it would make a terrific
one-liner for David Caruso to use on CSI:Miami. Picture this:
Frank: Looks like a mob hit.
Horatio: [tilts head to side] Well, you know what they say, Frank: Society prepares the crime... [dramatic pause as he puts on his shades] ...the criminal commits it.
And then he walks off-camera as Roger Daltrey screams, "Yyyyeaaaahhhhh!!"
